No Citizenship Proof Required for Voter ID at DMV?

MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation wants everyone to know that getting a free ID for voting is easy.

Maybe too easy.

The DOT page detailing the Wisconsin ID card petition process advises individuals seeking a voter ID card to provide the Division of Motor Vehicles with the usual identifying information — a birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of Wisconsin residency (utility bill, government mail, etc.), and proof of U.S. citizenship.

“If you don’t have all or any of these, you can still get an ID for voting,” the web page assures.

Really? Even if you don’t have proof of U.S. citizenship and Wisconsin residency? The policy language seems to suggest as much, and the confusion has raised some concerns.

But DMV officials insist that non-citizens applying for voter ID will not receive a card, and will not be allowed to vote. Applicants are asked to bring to the DMV office whatever documentation they may have. They are then asked to fill out two forms. Those who are cleared to vote will receive a photo ID document in the mail that they can use in time for voting.

The onus is on DMV investigators to track down the applicant’s qualifying voter ID documents. All that legwork is compliments of activist courts that demanded layers of “protections” in Wisconsin’s voter ID law. In so doing, they made the DMV the de facto Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Sen. Steve Naas (R-Whitewater) was on the legislative committee that dealt with the court-ordered requirements. The idea was to protect voters — most often elderly voters — who may not have a birth certificate or other key identification.

“In two cases I know, the courthouse where the birth certificate was burned down,” said Nass aide Mike Mikalsen. “What that language (on the DOT website) entails is what the court requires, that it’s not on citizens to hire detectives and investigators to dig up that material … The staff at the DMV goes through and tries to verify and backtrack that information.”

It can be a very time-consuming process. But is every DMV investigator so dedicated to verifying voter information?

A state government employee with inside information on the process tells Empower Wisconsin that there’s no way to truly test that diligence. While Republican Gov. Scott Walker made voter ID a key part of his tenure in office, his successor, Democrat Gov. Tony Evers has proposed driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants and last year he issued an executive order requiring the DOT to make a plan to increase access to DMV facilities that distribute voter ID cards.

“It’s not the DOT, it’s the courts that mucked this up,” the government insider said. And Evers’ policies could weaken voter integrity protections further.

Not also must this be stopped, but also the same day registration that some states like Wisconsin have.

Most states call it “motor voter.” It should be called AUTO FRAUDO.

I have to get the new drivers’s license that’s now required to board a plane. Note, my old license still has more than 2 years left before it expires. In order to get the new license I have to jump through hoops.I need my marriage certificate to prove my new name because my Social Security card has my maiden name, my passport, my birth certificate and a bill with my current address to prove I’m a resident of MA. Now, can someone explain to me how any illegal can produce any of those documents?
My daughter is currently living in CA. and needs a new license.Well, she’s not coming home to MA. to get it so she has to take the CA. test. She said the questions are quite difficult and wondered how a Mexican or any foreign born person could understand the questions. I told her they can’t and are probably given the test in Spanish.

It is harder to buy a six pack of beer than to register to vote.

There are a few Democrats that have a problem with illegal voting but not if Bernie is the nominee.

It should be called AUTO FRAUDO.
………………………….
Been going on in NC for years.
DMV examiners ask if the client wants to register to vote.
NOT allowed to ask, ‘are you a citizen?’

Now Real IDs are being dispensed. Kinda difficult to get but, a new speedy procedure is being set up.
Wondering what corners, documentation is getting cut.

Florida is the same way: you have to jump through many hoops to get/renew a DL - BC, 2 proofs of residence, etc. But then you get a gold star on your DL, which means you never have to do that again, except for changing address.

Also, you ALWAYS have to show acceptable ID to vote. That's why you see the shenanigans like in West Palm Beach...

They were pushing voter registration hard the last time I visited the DMV to renew my license. Half the people waiting to take tests didn't speak English so they get bring along an interpreter to “help” them take the tests.

*I* have to go the MD DMV with my original birth certificate and SS card in hand by April, to prove I’m supposed to be here or they’ll take my license away...the same license that I have had for the last 43 years

Illegals?

Nope.

They get a special license and don’t have to prove crap.

That’s the trick, and in California, too. NOBODY is in charge of verification. Why does nobody demand to have a report of WHO checks this, What are their RESOURCES? HOW many DLs get checked in a given year?

ZERO, unless there’s is somebody who turns themselves in.

Driver Licenses are easily forged and there is no national standard for birth certificates.

That only leaves a valid U.S. Passport that would prove a person’s identity.

We need a federal law that would require voters show a valid U.S. Passport to vote.

California did this. Now everyone has to get new driver license and provide proof of citizenship (birth certificate or passport, as well as proof of your address). The process takes weeks and if you don’t have the correct information you have to start over.

= = = = = = = = = = = = =
THAT is obscene.
When I first saw it up close, they definitely rendered me speechless.

I asked ‘my’ clerk if old old people were allowed to bring someone along to take the road test.
She just rolled her eyes at me...

On the other hand, I was issued an 8 year DL ONLINE at age 74... and when I got my Positive ID last year they took my picture with my DARK sunglasses on. (they are bifocals and I was taking my eye test and she said-ready for picture, she took and I still had glasses on)

In their ‘defense’ they did only make my ‘new’ one good till original expiration (’22) so guess I will have to go through the whole enchilda again...

(Have to hope I am around to be able to Biatch about it...HA HA)
