Joe Lieberman: Founding Fathers would have wanted a Trump acquittal
Washington Examiner ^ | February 1, 2020 | Andrew Mark Miller

Posted on 02/01/2020 4:40:23 PM PST by Kaslin

Former Democratic Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman said that he does not believe there was evidence to impeach President Trump and believes he would have voted to acquit if he were still in the Senate.

"The call that President Trump made with President Zelensky of Ukraine was inappropriate, was wrong, it shouldn't have been done," Lieberman said to the Blaze’s Glenn Beck. “But did it reach the point where we can say nine months before an election ... that, if we keep him in office, he represents a danger to the country? I don't think so," he added.

Lieberman did say that he would have voted to call witnesses in the trial.

"I'd probably vote for witnesses," the retired senator said before commenting on how political discourse was more civil back in the “good ol' days” of the Clinton impeachment.

He also added that the voters will have the opportunity to decide Trump’s fate in November and that it would be how the Founding Fathers wanted it. He believes that if the framers saw Trump’s acquittal, they would respond, “This is what we intended.”

Lieberman voted "not guilty" on both articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton during his Senate impeachment trial in 1999.

Lieberman, who was at one time referred to as the "conscience of the Senate," criticized 2020 Democrats earlier this month for not supporting Trump's strike against Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

“In their uniformly skeptical or negative reactions to Soleimani’s death, Democrats are falling well below Vandenberg’s standard and, I fear, creating the risk that the U.S. will be seen as acting and speaking with less authority abroad at this important time,” he said.

The Ukraine never knew the money was on hold after all it was delivered on time. So Joe, but I have to disagree with you on this.

The only thing this old commie has ever been right on is Israel, but everyone seems to thing he is a moderate. Hell, the Democrats were absolutely anti-semitic when he ran against them as an independent, but he still gladly caucused with them.

He did the Alexander, trashing Trump and then saying he should be acquitted. Lieberman beat Lowell Weicker. That’s the only thing he ever did right. Weicker was the Romney of his day.

So very many of our politicians are clueless, incompetent fools.
First, we had Alexander stating that he believes the dems made the case that our President did try to use the aid money to elicit an investigation of Biden.
Now, we have this idiot ex-politician basically stating the same thing.
The only fact witness the dems had stated categorically that President Trump wanted nothing from Zelensky but, for him to do the Right Thing. To do what he was elected to do and that is end the rampant corruption in the Ukraine.

There were 18 witnesses Joe all rats. The “no additional witnesses” is gone.

Joe Lieberman has been saying a lot lately over the last couple of years that have raised my opinion of him considerably from when he ran for VP. He took responsibility for his acquittal of Bubba and saiod it was a big mistake. His judgment of this situation affirms my newly found respect of him and shows consistency.

“...would have wanted...”????

The Founders would have seen through the farce and would never have let it get this far. The 2 allegations were not even crimes.

The House Dems had nothing, but with the help of the compliant media, they were able to string things (investigations and more unfounded allegations) for nearly 3 years. And they vow to continue as long as they have a House majority.

Remember when I lived in Connecticut in the 1980s. We used to joke that we had a Republican Senator (Wieckert) who acted like a liberal and a Democrat Senator (Liebermann) who acted like a conservative.

I think Senator Liebermann was the last of the JFK Democrats. Nowadays, the nuts in that party make FDR look like a Conservative.

I call b.s.

Lieberman would've toed the demonicRAT line.

Did it occur to Beck to ask Lieberman about the appropriateness of Biden's threat to withhold aid unless the prosecutor investigating his son's employer was fired?

Actually, the founding fathers would have hung Joe and Hunter Biden on the gallows.

Did Trump’s lawyers ever bring up the U.S. Ukraine Mutual Aid Agreement? Or the fact that Ukraine got its money within the time allotted?

“Lieberman voted “not guilty” on both articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton during his Senate impeachment trial in 1999.”

...why should have have voted guilty, it was only OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE and SUBORNING PERJURY, and it was clearly proven?

Nice try, Joe.

Those of us who see shades of grey have long respected Lieberman even though we often don’t often agree with him.

President Trump was correct to say what he did.

Because by doing so he confirmed to the new reform minded Ukrainian President, and to the world that was listening in, that, unlike the previous administration, he and his administration were not going to have the Ukrainians fire anyone to receive US aid.

President Trump thus removed all doubt that he and the Trump administration are also corrupt as the last US administration.

President Trump confirmed that he and his administration have no plans to loot Ukraine like obama, Biden and others not yet named have been doing.

President Trump confirmed that he is also going to prosecute those who have been looting Ukraine.

Oh my ... no wonder “they” are doing this impeachment nonsense.

They must throw as much shade and manure as possible on President Trump to distract the masses and the asses away what from “they” themselves actually HAVE done and actually ARE doing!

“You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time ... “

Yeah ... until the people wake up, that is ... uh oh... :)

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The FF’s would probably have went back to the drawing board to ensure BS like this wouldn’t happen again, and yes, they would have had the Bidens and the other traitors be the main attraction at a hanging party and ran it on Network TV for all to see what will happen when you F’ with the bull..

(TJefferson would have been so het up he would have invented TV, just for the occasion)
