The typical flu is more like 24 hours on a hard surface. Clothing and fabrics, 2-3 hours. On the skin it only lasts about 15 minutes due to the enzymes in our skin! (Our bodies are pretty amazing.)
In looking into face mask information, the CDC says that most of viral infections in the public are do to contaminated surfaces, touching them with your hands and then the hands to the face. They said that masks are not very helpful, but wearing gloves, washing your hands, etc. is most important.
If you are in close proximity to the infected person (taking care of them), then a N95 respirator is critical.
Weve been referring to the March base as the quarantine location.
As stated above for viruses on surfaces...they last longer on hard surfaces (or Swiss bank notes)...generally not viable after 24-72 hours except Norovirus (gastrointestinal, think “cruise ships”) which can lat a couple of weeks.

The terminal is closed for the winter as indicated in the article.
I did a quick search. One of the fastest dying viruses is HIV, they said it lasts “a few hours” on a hard surface. Next was RSV (respritory thing for kids) at 6 hours.
It would seem odd that this Wuhan virus only lasts for 2 hours, but still China feels the need to shut down entire cities of millions.
China also said the peak of the epidemic in Wuhan will be in ten days. Hong Kong experts modeled it at 8 weeks. I hope they are wrong, but I would trust the HK folks over China.
The 2019 H1N1 outbreak in England had two peaks. One during the summer that peaked about 5 weeks after onset, and then another event that began in the fall, and peaked about 9 weeks after onset.
Of course - not sure when this recent epidemic started. The beginning of February? But I think some data indicates early December.
The 1918 swine flu in Sweden peaked at about 3 months.
Good place to leave them until the virus runs its course.
That Kalitta Air 747 normally hauls cattle . I see it all the time. Mooooo
By the sound of this article (and as weve been hearing), getting accurate information will not be coming from China. Its pretty disturbing tho.

The state dept. Wuhan Coronavirus flight is airborne (pun intended)...now headed for SoCal.

These are diplomats and their families. Average Americans are apparently stranded in Wuhan.
“... and burn their clothing and the plane.”
Burn the plane? LOL
They should do this for all Allegiant flights. I always get sick three days later after flying with them.
One family is not diplomats. The dad went to LSU and the LSU football board helped him get out. He has a baby and a 3 year old.
He’s been posting updates on the LSU board.
Kalitta Air departed Anchorage 35 minutes ago due to arrive at Riverside, CA 7:45 AM west coast time.
Yet the Chinese people flying in to the U.S. have a thermometer touch their foreheads and are waved on through with no problem. Wouldn’t want to single out foreigners for quarantine. But it’s OK to target Americans.
This is one time when I’m critical of Trump — how this issue is being handled. Everyone from China or nearby countries with this virus needs to be quarantined for seven days. The policy is way too loose, and potentially critical.
Three days, but symptoms might not show up for 14 days?
Yep. This is beyond idiotic. Trump needs to act like a leader.
Now quarantine them. They do it to astronauts returning from space, even though no instance of space-bourne disease has have occurred. So do it to returnees from a known outbreak.
This virus could TANK the economy and will if they dont get a grip on it fast!!! It makes me wonder if China did this deliberately because they want Trump OUT!!!
