Doug Collins Expected To Try Ousting New Georgia Senator In GOP Battle

Georgia Rep. Doug Collins, an ardent ally of President Donald Trump and vocal opponent of his impeachment, is expected to announce he will challenge fellow Republican and newly appointed Sen. Kelly Loeffler for her seat this year, a Republican official said Monday.

The decision by the four-term lawmaker could complicate the GOP’s chances of holding onto the seat as Republicans battle to retain their Senate majority in this November’s elections.

Collins was Trump's preferred choice for the seat but Kemp appointed Loeffler. So does Trump endorse Collins over the sitting senator in the primary?

I'm not sure if a bitter primary would put the seat in play like the article suggests but it isn't going to help.

I’d say Collins need to stay out of a race where the HuffPo is pimping a primary battle.

Trump named Collins as his choice for the seat. Does Collins put aside his ambitions for God knows how long or does he primary Loeffler while Trump is in office and play up the President's earlier endorsement.

Nah, leave her alone. She's a Republican. Plus, we need someone in the "World's Greatest Deliberative Body" that we can look at without gagging.

If Loeffler wants to stay in office she can always go for Collins office. If she wants it bad enough let her earn it.

The liberal media has way of pumping republicans that help democrats win. They loved John McCain and Mitt. They knew they were losers.

With the popularity of Stacy Abrams and the treachery of Brian Kemp on the Senate appointment, GA will be very tough to win.

Much as I like Collins, I think someone with his personality is far better suited for the House or a governor’s office than for a body of feckless fools like the U.S. Senate.

It’s Huff Po.

They're not the only one reporting it. The Atlanta media and most national news sites are also saying Collins is going to run.

She will now have to vote to acquit The President. If she doesn’t she will likely be primaried out.

While I totally agree with you and enjoyed watching Mitt get literally bitch slapped I definitely get the feeling she’s there more for the establishment than for the people.

She’s there for two reasons:

1. She’s a woman, and is expected to appeal to suburban women who are a major swing voting group.

2. She’s very wealthy, and can finance her own campaign. This is a BIG deal for the national GOP.

She's already on record as saying she is against impeachment and will vote to acquit.

David Perdue is up for re-election this year as well.

I have been saying for some time now that Georgia will be tough to hold as a Republican Red State. Suburban counties that used to be red are now purple (turning blue) with the influx of democrat migrants from blue states.

With the popularity of Stacy Abrams and the treachery of Brian Kemp on the Senate appointment, GA will be very tough to win.

I don’t agree with Collins challenging the fellow republican and probably won’t vote for him in the primary because of it. Otherwise I am fine with Collins, but this will not be good for the Election period. If enough like me vote for Loeffler in the primary maybe we can shut this down before too much harm is done.
