The world’s 2,153 billionaires have more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population, a new report from the charity group Oxfam says.

Oxfam’s report, ‘Time to Care’, was released Sunday just ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where about 1,500 of the world leaders in politics, business and finance come together each year.

“The gap between rich and poor can’t be resolved without deliberate inequality-busting policies, and too few governments are committed to these,” Oxfam India CEO Amitabh Behar, who is in Davos to represent the Oxfam confederation this year said.

If all the money I the world was distributed equally, within 3 generations it would be in similar hands.

Money making and accumulation of wealth are skills highly correlated to IQ and certain social attributes.

Money, like IQ, is racist.

This is a big liberal leftist theme.

Their idea always is to suppress and take from billionaires rather than everyone get more.

Even if that didn’t happen to the economy, if they took and redistributed all the wealth equally. most of the poor would be broke again within a year and most of the movers and shakers would be right back on top. Takes a lot more than a pile of ‘free’ cash to make a man successful.

Though I don’t agree with the arguments the left makes about wealth inequality my study of history shows when the gap becomes too great between haves and have nots it raises the potential for violence and rebellion in a society. You can look all the way back to the ancient Greeks and see this.

Now the question is what do you do about this fact. I don’t really have an answer and I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.

Me and my wife are just middle class in Florida, and I’m pretty sure that I’m wealthier than half of the people in the world. Statistically meaningless, and just as meaningless than the comparison of the billionaires and the 4.6 billion people.

All this stat shows is only a very few people have the knack for making big money.

I've made enough money to never be a burden to anyone. Now I'm enjoying life.

Good point.

I’ve heard others say it would be only a few years before things would be lopsided again.

It’s the knowledge these men have, and their business sense, that allows them to do what they do.

At least now 4.6 billion people know who to go to work for.

...Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

--Robert Heinlein

The percentage of humans living in abject poverty is the lowest in all of history. But, I can guarantee you that if we take punitive action against the ultra-wealthy we will start having a run of "bad luck".

The billionaires that support this should give it up first. I believe nearly all of silicon valley billionaires loves those that want to take their money

I’ll go out on a limb and guess that a lot of that money these billionaires have is generating a lot of jobs, projects and wealth for other people.

If I have $10 in the bank I’m pretty sure I have more wealth than 1 or 2 billion people in this world who have more debts than assets. These wealth comparison articles are just another way to infuriate and mobilize left wing dolts who are bad at math.

The world’s 2,153 billionaires athletes have more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population.

The world’s 2,153 billionaires movie stars have more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population.

The world’s 2,153 billionaires singers have more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population.

The world’s 2,153 billionaires politicians have more wealth than the 4.6 billion people who make up 60% of the planet’s population.

Has anyone thought about why we have only 30 major league baseball teams? Why does the NFL only have 32 teams? Why does the NBA only have 30 teams? Why does the NHL only have 31 teams?

The answer is obviously that the talent pool can only supply so many people who can compete competitively, such that 31 +/- 1 seems to be the limit for sports teams. People who can throw, catch, tackle, run, hit, lob, skate, sing, act, or just look pretty in clothes at the top level of their fields are rare.

So why single out people who are good at business, finance, and economics? Their money is the same as the athletes, actors, singers, and models. And they are just as rare in their fields as are the others just mentioned.

Is Marketwatch advocating Marxist redistribution? I don’t know?

Oxfam has always been about that. However cleverly cloaked.

There is a biblical reference for having a jubilee year every once in awhile. I think that may have probably helped reduce the potential for what you’re talking about.

Who cares ??

Second very wealthy people lead crappy lives. All they worry about is money. They are insecure and paranoid

Zuckerberg will never set foot on secret beach. On Kauai. Yet owns 50 million in property above it

Same with Bloomberg. Bill gates and all other billionaires

They can never be alone. Go for a walk. Go to the beach. They are prisoners of their own greed
