Puerto Rico Emergency Director Fired After Residents Discover Warehouse Full of Hurricane Maria Supplies

Carlos Acevedo, director of Puerto Rico’s Office of Emergency Management, was dismissed Saturday. The governor appointed Maj. Gen. José J. Reyes, the adjutant general of the Puerto Rico National Guard, to replace him.

Acevedo has denied allegations of mishandling, saying the agency has been actively distributing supplies, according to a statement released through the office of emergency management. No residents have been denied any supplies in the warehouse, including food, diapers, baby formula and cots, Acevedo said.

He said about 600 pallets of water were distributed when Hurricane Dorian and Hurricane Karen threatened Puerto Rico and during a drought that affected the island last year. Nearly 80 of those pallets remain in the warehouse because they expired, he said.

There was probably more in the warehouse before the back door black market sales by the director and mayor.

While the director and mayor blamed President Trump for not sending supplies

They even went as far as dumping brand new supplies, mostly water bottles, new, sealed in the 36 pack wraps out in a field in Puerto Rico. Because the government were trying to hide it from the American investigators. They didn’t want it stacked in warehouses because it would show that they actually did get the supplies and was never distributed.

They did all of this to make President Trump look bad.

Puerto Rican people are pissed at their government, there was a great facebook group that had thousands of dissenters who posted pics of wasted supplies, basically brand new stuff being dumped in landfills or fields so no one in the corrupt government would go to jail.

I am glad to see that someone got fired, which is rare in a leftist controlled government.

We should never send money or stuff to any country unless a bonded American accompanies it and oversees its use. We have been ripped off too many times...like this. Then they complain about us!!!! Dumb.

Spanish colonial rulers have been exploiting their subjects for about six centuries.

It’s in the blood.

Is there something about the Spanish language that ferments bold corruption in government?

English is not much better but it normally allows more trickle down.

Trump called them out on it back then, and the media tried to skew it as insulting all Puerto Ricans; he clarified that the leadership didn’t want to do anything, but wanted everything done for them.
