A Catrina is a well dressed skeleton of the Day of The Dead, Meskin holiday.
Well, she had a creepy and appropriate nickname.
Learned about Dia de los Muertos in high school. Then it was about visiting the graves of loved ones and communing with their souls on that one day of the year. It corresponds with All Souls Day on November 2nd in the Catholic calendar.
But now they have gone all Alfred Hitchcock with skeletons galore and this hideous image of “Santa Muerte”. It’s a worship of Death that even the Muslims might envy.
Hallowe’en makes fun of spooks and skeletons and coffins and teaches children not to fear the inevitable IF their belief is that the death of the body is not the end of one’s existence. I’m appalled that it’s now as big a secular holiday as Christmas.
No thanks. My Christian faith tells me to make peace with my God and to trust in the goodness and mercy of my Savior.
