Plastic bags are now considered bad for the environment.
You are supposed to use reusable cloth shopping bags.
Expect to see local governments tax the use of plastic bags used at stores.

I have the colorful big plastic bags with handles for grocery items.
Does this mean we have to buy several plastic or netting style ones for buying 6 Idaho potatoes, 4 sweet potatoes, 2 zucchini,some cold lettuce leaves, radishes and a pound of wet asparagus sitting in crushed ice?

One problem the elites foresee is that as the jobs leave the West for Asia, there will be a few billion people that might want their own homes and cars (and thermostats set at 72 degrees). Rather than deal with that, they expect the West to forego these things - and plenty of young people are doing just that voluntarily.

Yes in most cases blue states are worse. Where we are living they will not even allow us to extend the natural gas main 100 feet so we can use it for heating our house. But it is being done at a state and local level in both red and blue states. There are plenty of red states that have excessive regulation by tyrants in small building departments that charge excessive fees for their completely worthless efforts.
