Not intentionally misleading, however I should have added (Iran) to the title. My bad.

That said, the responses demonstrate the level of distrust U.S. university faculty have earned considering how intuitive it is to believe U.S. faculty could have been penned by letter.

(Does Iran really have 6000 professors?)

Yes. I thought the same thing until I read the article. Many us profs are saying the same thing though they did not sign the letter.

Iran has 80 million people. And it’s a highly literate, educated society. Why in the world would you doubt they have a measly 6000 professors? They undoubtedly have tens of thousands of professors.

Iran has a population of about 82 million.

I think 5,000 professors is stretching what we think of as professors, but the number doesn’t seem too way off
