Trey Gowdy: Trump impeachment trial is not about him. THIS is what Democrats want now
fox news ^ | 1/9/2020 | trey gowdy

Republican Senator Cory Gardner is what you would expect in a swing state like Colorado: affable, supportive of his party when it benefits his state, unafraid of independence, and not angry about any of it. Like Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Reps. Peter Welch, Elise Stefanik, and Will Hurd, Gardner has a different kind of personality than what is typically rewarded in the modern political environment.

His uniqueness allowed him to successfully unseat a purple state Democratic incumbent to become Colorado’s junior senator in 2014. It also makes him the real target of impeachment.

The impeachment of President Donald Trump is not about Trump's removal from office. Of the more than one dozen Republican senators whose conviction votes would be necessary to remove the president from office, no one can identify more than 3 Republican senators who might even conceivably vote to do so. And there are Democratic senators, like Doug Jones from Alabama and Joe Manchin from West Virginia, who are just as likely to vote for an acquittal, as any Republican Senators are to vote to convict.

Even the practicality of the math could not sway the likes of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who lectured us that impeachment was his "responsibility." Public hearings did not change public opinion. Changing prosecutorial theories did not change public opinion. A gale-force media tailwind pushing impeachment has not changed public opinion. But Schiff knows what is best for you -- even if you do not -- so he must press on.

So why would otherwise savvy politicians like Speaker Nancy Pelosi continue to push a case for which there is zero likelihood of a conviction?

Well, these power drunk politicians (both sides of the aisle) drove the government bus into the muddy ditch and do NOT have the experience or strength to pull the rig back onto the road.

DC is a diseased swamp.

Yep, this is about gaining control of both the house and Senate.

I question Gowdy’s membership status in the swamp, but I never question his intelligence. Gowdy has identified the only possible win for the Dems in this mess.

Good expose on the real plan of the coup plotters.

IMO the Senate should call witnesses and conduct a trial. They should include BOTH Schiff’s witnesses and the witnesses Schiff wouldn’t allow.

Schiff and his fellow plotters are hoping the GOP Senate dismisses the impeachment. That seems justifiable but it gives the democrats several campaign issues to drive in this fall’s election.

They have no case. The GOP should call them on their scheme and expose they have no case.

What will it take to get Schiff voted out of his San Diego seat in November?

This whole sordid hubbub in the House has also given massive positive face time to rising GOP stars. Ratcliff, Stefanik, Jordan, Collins all come out of this with the equivalent of millions in free advertising.

Goudy discussed this rat strategy with Maria B’omo about a week ago. He also informed her {implied in this article) that he believes the rats keep the house.

I appreciate his concern but it’s looking like impeachment is hurting the rats more than Trump. A GOP mod who votes to support Trump can easily defend it on just principles. It won’t be that easy to brand them as simply partisan.

Anyway the mods have no choice. A vote against Trump would kill them with the base.

Gowdy is saying that the impeachment, puts moderate republicans on the spot....

I say, how so?

Does he think that if Gardner or the others vote for impeachment, then it will save their seat?

BS.

Exactly...The Fake News Media will run with this until next November...Republicans refuse to allow witness that could/would sink Trump's Presidency...

I say the Republicans should allow all the witnesses that the Democrats request, that have to do with the impeachment charges...Understanding that the Mueller investigation is off the table...That's over and done with...

I think the voter’s mind is already made up about the impeachment sham. Treating it with the contempt it deserves and dismissing it will be a relief to those sick of the Rat show.

McConnell should tell Schumer that he gets 3 witnesses. And Republicans get 3 - Barney Google, Mr. Touchy-Feely and his unnatural progeny.

“What will it take to get Schiff voted out of his San Diego seat in November?”

The last time Schiff’s seat was won by a Republican was 2000.

Schiff has recorded 78% of the vote in his district during both of the last 2 elections. In 2018 he beat the Republican 196,662 to 54,272. Assuming the same number of people vote in 2020, it will take 125,468 votes to win. Hillary won 72.1% of the presidential vote in the district in 2016. The district comprises some of the most liberal neighborhoods in California including West Hollywood, Burbank, parts of Pasadena, Hollywood, Hollywood Hills.

It will take a great candidate and a huge turnout of anti-Schiff Republicans (if there are any in the district) and independents to defeat Schiff in 2018. Plus a huge amount of money. In the 2018 elections Schiff’s Republican opponent raised $36,370 and spent all but $37 of the total. Adam Schiff raised $6,268,995 and spent $$3,660,828. His war chest for 2020 already has over $4.7 million. Likely his Hollywood friends would more than double that number if he felt the least bit threatened.

This impeachment is a soap opera aimed at keeping some here in suspense like watching a Hitchcock thriller. A trial will just prolong the process, continuing to distract Trump from his job. This charade should end with a dismissal.
