BEFORE the Dems get to hear ANY witness, the GOP will call a number of witnesses that the Dems have NO INTEREST in hearing, and in fact, can't stand the political risk of allowing to testify.
The Dems called to testify would try the typical games of refusing the subpoena or pretending not to remember.
And then, they'd demand every e-mail and personal and professional writing over the last 5 years, along with tax records of all witnesses they'd like to call.
Don't expect Mitch to fall for this nonsense. There will be no Senate witnesses.
I could agree with shimmer, if Trump is allowed to call his own witnesses. Half the senate would be indicted after the trial.

I have a suggestion that should appease everyone. Kill the current articles of impeachment, open a new impeachment inquiry from the beginning and add these witnesses to the list. And while they are at it, the Republicans also get to call witnesses during the congressional sessions.
Then present impeachment articles to the Senate.
