“Another 40 years?”
The strategy has changed.
I don’t anticipate a single US boot on Iranian soil. In fact, if Iran doesn’t make good on their threats, there likely won’t be any shooting at all.
But if they do, hell will rain down upon them.
Yeah... Hopefully we’d MOAB and fuel-air-vapor bomb the equivalent of their White House and Congress in session.
Nixon told of a conversation he had with the Soviet leader at the time over Israel (Brezhniv??). Nixon said it was important to have close ties with one’s enemies - and that they knew you.
Anyway - Brezhniv(?) had moved a bunch of Soviet troops near the border of Israel, and told Nixon that the only way to counter it was to move a bunch of our troops into the region.
Nixon said something like “That would just be stupid. Two soldiers from opposite sides could make a mistake and cause WW III.”
“I told him - no, we will not be sending troops. But mark my word, the instant that your troops do anything - we will respond with ALL available means to stop you. They pulled back a week later. He knew me. And that I wasn’t bluffing. Peace through strength is a very real thing. But our relationship was even more important.”
I think that President Trump’s recent actions send a similar message.
