Court grants appeal to keep Tinslee Lewis on life support until final ruling issued: 'Gives us so much hope'

Supporters of an 11-month-old girl in Texas who has been hospitalized since her February birth celebrated an appeals court decision on Friday that delayed a judge’s previous ruling that granted the hospital permission to remove her from life support. The move is just the latest in a back-and-forth battle between medical staff at Cook Children’s Medical Center and the family of Tinslee Lewis, a baby who doctors say is in pain and “will never improve.”

“This gives us so much hope for Tinslee,” Kimberlyn Schwarts, a spokeswoman for Texas Right to Life, which has been advocating for Tinslee and her mother, Trinity Lewis. “This is a prayer answered.”

Tinslee’s doctors argue that their patient, who was born with Ebstein’s anomaly that is an abnormality in the tricuspid valve that separates the right atrium from the right ventricle, is suffering and her condition is “irreversible.” However, the family argues that the girl needs more time to heal.

“She’s made it this far,” Trinity Lewis, the girl’s mother, said, according to Fox 4 News. “I know she’s going to continue to fight for her life.”

The “10 day rule” is rediculous, arbitrary and extremely lazy.

I know how strong we are pro-life here on FR. But at the very least each case should be evaluated on its own merits.

Prayer works and I will say a prayer for this little girl that God lets her live her life.

“Our medical judgment is that Tinslee should be allowed to pass naturally and peacefully rather than artificially kept alive by painful treatments. Even with the most extraordinary measures the medical team is taking, Tinslee continues to suffer. To keep her alive, doctors and nurses must keep her on a constant stream of painkillers, sedatives, and paralytics.”

The statement continued, “As a result, Tinslee is paralyzed at all times. She currently is suffering from severe sepsis, not uncommon when patients require deep sedation and chemical paralysis to maintain organ function. Even with medication and support, Tinslee has ‘dying events’ 2-3 times per day. When she is in distress, Tinslee crashes and aggressive medical intervention is immediately necessary, which causes even more pain.”

Her mother is obviously mentally ill. What kind of sick mind could put a child through that with no hope of recovery.

Why does a judge get to decide who lives and who dies?

Does he love the child more than her parents?

And besides, miracles are still possible (there are precedents...)

“Her mother is obviously mentally ill.”

Are you a licensed mental health professional?

Natural right to life death does not include all the technology and three times a day resuscitation . Yeah..miracles. how about compassion for this child

Why does a judge get to decide who lives and who dies?

It's actually the good people of Texas, through their elected representatives, who wrote the ten-day-rule into law and in certain situations turned the situation over to the doctor and the hospital's ethics committee.

The parents are asking a judge to override the will of Texas citizens and medical professionals nationwide.

Yes..I am. Reading the daily torture they put this child thru is disgusting to call this Christian..Solomon said ..cut the baby in half...and the real mother said no.. That’s compassion in the bible scripture.

This isn’t Right to Life... it’s theological egotists..Pharasses

Even a retard from the 5th grade could make that diagnosis.

And anyone who is supporting this woman is complicit in the torture of a baby.

Your response makes more sense than anything anyone else has said in this thread.

I deal with these issues all the time (but not in babies).

“Hope” is one thing. Denial of biology is not the same as hope.

Hoping something wasn’t true, hoping that things people are telling you are false, wishing that things were not as they are, these are all common, normal human reactions to incurable or irreversible diseases.

It’s not common for things to go this far.

My 43 year olf brother had Cancer and he had little time. I asked him if he was afraid to die. He told me something I will never forget. First he said, Thank you for asking. Nobody ever wants to talk about it. He continued, “I am not afraid to die, I’m afraid of the pain.” He was in hospice before he died and we made sure he was not in pain. It was the least I could do.
