U.S. deportations of Guatemalans doubled over past decade

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration stepped up deportations of Guatemalans in 2019, doubling the number of migrants sent back from the United States a decade earlier, data from the Central American country showed on Friday.

Trump has made cracking down on illegal immigration a major policy focus and has continued to press the issue in the run-up to the November U.S. presidential election.

Last year, the United States deported 54,547 people to Guatemala on 486 flights, the highest since at least 2007, according to data from the Guatemalan Institute of Migration. In 2009, the year Trump's Democratic predecessor Barack Obama took office, there were 27,222 deportations.

"We associate the increase with migration policies of the United States," Alejandra Mena, a spokeswoman for the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, told Reuters. She said she expected 2020 to follow a similar pattern.

There were more than 400,000 deportations to Guatemala during the decade through 2019, the institute's data show.

Deportations increased steadily in the first half-dozen year's of Obama's two terms as president, peaking at 51,157 in 2014, and then fell sharply the following year.

In 2017, the year Trump took office, 32,833 Guatemalans were deported from the United States. The next year deportations increased to 51,376.

Just minutes ago, I saw a sob story on the news about a kid who got stabbed to death at a 7-Eleven in Denver. They interviewed the mom through a translator. Now they're trying to raise money to send his body back to Guatemala for burial.

My only thought was, if they'd stayed in Guatemala to begin with, the kid would still be alive.

I’m partial to aviation matters so yesterday I pulled-up Flightaware.com to see what was up in my area and I came across a flight from San Pedro Sula, Honduras to Phoenix Gateway Airport (KIWA). That’s odd I said to myself. Why would there be such a non-stop? Then it dawned on me that Swift Air, identified by Flightaware is the charter company flying illegals back to their home countries as ICE contractor.

A little further investigation produced an article by some pro-immigration group at some Arizona university that the flights cost about $8500 an hour. The return flight (empty) from San Pedro Sula is a four hour affair. That inclides flight crew and medical and security personnel.

Matters not whether theres a full plane or just one law-breaker aboard. It is expensive. Pull up flightaware and look for flights from south Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, like HRL, MFE, CRP, BRW, ELP, ABQ, IWA, SLC, SAN, LAX, LAS, YUM and on and on. Then go up north to bigger cities like ORD and MDW and MSP and do the same.

They must be stopped at the border and turned out into Nexico from whence they traversed.

Agreed. Keep doubling the rate of deportations. I want to see 2 million per year deported (and fined the cost of enforcement when possible), and then I’d like to see that number increase until we run out of illegals. Deport all illegals. No exceptions.

Many news stories here in the NYC metro area are like that; interpreters are needed to speak to the friends and families of the victims AND perps. I’ve pointed out countless times that these people are trafficked here to fill areas abandoned by Americans, and this makes it clear; the areas are devoid of Western Civilization (and they are growing).
