The article completely ignores hidden federal taxes that the consumer pays.

Federal taxes include excises taxes of 18.3 cents per gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents per gallon on diesel fuel. Ohio taxes include excises taxes of 38.5 cents per gallon on gasoline and 47.0 cents per gallon on diesel fuel.

Gasoline is the low hanging fruit of hidden taxes. I figure that between my wife and I that gasoline taxes takes about $800 per year from our bottom line. (Thank God I don’t live in California)

Then there is the fact that corporations do not pay taxes, they collect them. Everything you buy has hidden federal taxes included in the price.

The average citizen pays easily half of their income in taxes (Federal, state and local).

Sulfur Levels in Gasoline

The LDV Emissions program required gasoline to meet an average sulfur standard of 120 ppm and a cap of 300 ppm beginning in 2004. Since 2006, the average standard was reduced to 30 ppm with an 80 ppm sulfur cap.

Starting January 1, 2017, EPA requires that federal gasoline will contain an average of 10 ppm sulfur on an annual basis, with the maximum sulfur allowed per batch remaining at 80 ppm at the refinery gate and 95 ppm downstream.

EPA has offered flexibility in phase in of these sulfur standards at each stage, temporarily allowing for compliance with less stringent standards by small refiners or small volume refiners in 2004-2006, 2006-2007, and again during 2017-2020.

Highway Diesel Fuel

15 ppm – Diesel fuel of maximum sulfur level of 15 ppm was available for highway use beginning in June 2006. This fuel, referred to as “ultra low sulfur diesel” (ULSD), was legislated by EPA to enable catalyst-based emission control devices, such as diesel particulate filters and NOx absorbers necessary for meeting the 2007-2010 emission standards for heavy-duty engines and the Tier 2 light-duty standards. For additional information, see the US Heavy-duty Emissions page.

Absolutely they do. I just replied to this for emphasis.

I've long said the same thing. I've had people act in disbelief when I said it but after thinking about it no one has proven me wrong or even mounted a serious argument.

One of the things that bothers me most about all of these taxes is the enormous waste of effort and intelligence that goes in to complying with tax laws and avoiding paying taxes.

Thousands of very intelligent peoples’ entire career is wasted as accountants and tax lawyers.

These people could have had productive careers where their lives would have meant far more to society and advanced humankind far more.

Yet another example of why no American should EVER vote for a Democrat!

A vote for a Democrat is a vote AGAINST America!

"They propose increasing or creating new federal taxes on income, payrolls, business profits, carbon emissions, financial transactions, wealth, and more [???]."
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

From related threads…

Patriots are reminded of the federal government's constitutionally limited powers, including the fed's Supreme Court-clarified, but now wrongly ignored, limited power to appropriate taxes.

In other words, and militia issue aside, patriots can bet that if a given federal domestic spending program is not reasonably related to the US Mail Service then the program is unconstitutional and probably win the bet most of the time.

"Article I, Section 8, Clause 7: To establish Post Offices and post Roads;"

Such spending is based on stolen state revenues which the feds steal by means of unconstitutional taxes according to the Gibbons excerpt above, taxes that career lawmakers cannot justify under Congress's constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers imo.

In fact, consider that the congressional record shows that Rep. John Bingham, a constitutional lawmaker, had clarified that the Founding States had left the care of the people uniquely to the states, evidenced by the 10th Amendment (10A), not the feds.

Justice Brandeis later put it this way about "laboratories of democracy," the unique powers of the sovereign states to serve the people, depending on what the legal majority citizen voters of a given state want.

"It is one of the happy incidents of the federal system that a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose [emphasis added], serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.” —Justice Brandeis, Laboratories of democracy.

(Note that constitutional limits on states as laboratories of democracy is that states cannot establish privileged / protected classes or abridge constitutionally enumerated rights, and must maintain a constitutionally guaranteed republican form of government.)

So why are the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification feds now unconstitutionally dictating federal domestic policy?

Using inappropriate words like “concept” and “implicit,” the excerpt below from Wickard v. Filburn (Wickard) shows what was left of the defense of 10A-protected state sovereignty by the last of the state sovereignty-respecting majority justices in United States v. Butler, FDR’s state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices later blatantly ignoring the reasonable Butler interpretation of 10A when they scandalously decided Wickard in Congress’s favor imo.

The remedy for the unconstitutionally big federal government on our backs and its unconstitutional taxes…

Patriots need to elect a new patriot Congress in November that will not only promise to fully support PDJT's already excellent work for MAGA, now KAGA, but will also promise to do the following.

New patriot lawmakers also need to promise to work with PDJT to surrender state powers that the fed's have been stealing from the states back to the states.

And to make such restoration of state powers permanent, patriots need to further support PDJT in working with the states to repeal the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments.

Remember in November!

MAGA! Now KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)

Then there is the fact that corporations do not pay taxes, they collect them.

Everything you buy has hidden federal taxes included in the price.

And most US citizens think that adding MORE taxes on businesses is gonna SAVE them money!!!

(Our skools are complicit in this understanding)

...corporations do not pay taxes, they collect them.

If a business has to pay X amount of taxes; that is a mere cost of doing business; added along with electricity, wages, raw materials; etc.

This "X" is included into the cost of the product sold; BUT, there is ALSO the "Y" cost of administering the time spent collecting, calculating and sending the tax to Washington.

It would be CHEAPER for the taxpayer just to pay it himself!

(But then the sap would REALLY be incensed at how much is being taken from him.)

“The average citizen pays easily half of their income in taxes (Federal, state and local).”

I live in South Carolina which is still often referred to as a “low tax state”. It is low tax like I’m short at six four simply because some people are taller. There are no actual low tax states in this country now. Here the state takes seven percent in income tax and eight percent in sales tax with another two percent added on meals and lodging and such. The selling point on that “accommodations” tax was that we would fleece the tourists but it adds to the cost of a burger at Hardee’s for the working class. We don’t have the nation’s highest taxes but we certainly don’t have the lowest either. At 75 I pay very little or nothing in income taxes but I pay a higher percentage in sales and other taxes on what I buy than my parents paid for everything.

(But then the sap would REALLY be incensed at how much is being taken from him.)

Hence the term Hidden taxes.

There is of course the Ideologic reason for hiding the taxes.

One of the Left’s favorite political tools is demonizing corporations and the rich.

“Big Oil doesn’t pay their fair share” and “The Evil Rich don’t pay their fair share”

Then of course there is the most important incentive for taxing corporations; extorting campaign contributions from these corporations.

Every congressman in Washington salivates over a seat on the “Ways and Means committee because they make up the tax laws. Get on this committee and your campaign fund raising just go way easier.

My paycheck shows about 43% taken in taxes. The stock I own will be taxed at 48% when sold. I am taxed more in sales tax and all kinds of ‘fees’ like for my driver license and tabs.

Meanwhile I am still driving down the same bad roads and now see bums littering the sidewalks and parks along with illegals getting driver licenses they do not pay for and all sorts of free money from us taxpayers and if you steal less then $950 per day you get away free.

And some on FR advocate a Value Added Tax.

A Value Added Tax would be corporate taxes on steroids.

They say; “I could pay less taxes by buying less stuff”.

What is the point of having more money in your pocket if you can’t buy anything?

The only way to pay less taxes is to get government to do fewer things.

And that is a Win/Win.

If the government does less they need less money. If the government does less the people have more Freedom.

Let’s not forget The Fed picking your pocket with interest rates less than inflation and monetizing the national debt. Retirees and savers hardest hit.
