Climate Predictions – Doubling Down on Stupid

If the “science is settled” regarding global warming, climate change, extreme weather, or whatever it goes by these days, why are past predictions not more accurate?

Weather forecasting, although frequently off the mark, is usually fairly accurate. If snow is predicted, it typically falls. It may be a few inches more or less than predicted but it isn’t sunny and 80 degrees on a day a major snowstorm is forecast.

Yet climate, which is a longer-term measure of weather, cannot be predicted with any more accuracy than flipping a coin or throwing dice. Let’s look at some past predictions.

Almost twenty years ago, in 2004, the Guardian reported what U.S. defense officials at the Pentagon warned about the future climate:

A secret report, suppressed by US defense chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.

As 2020 has just arrived, let’s see how those predictions turned out. For New Year’s Day, London is predicted to have a high of 46 degrees. While in Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia, the New Year’s Day high was only 23 degrees. So much for “Britain is plunged into a Siberian climate by 2020.”

Climate Predictions – Doubling Down on Stupid

I too predict that climate hoaxers will double down on stupid in 2020.

In related news, I predict we will have weather.

I am no great defender of the climate change movement but this particular “forecast” does not sound anything like what most global warmers were saying in 2004, they were saying the opposite, that it would get warmer. I have to wonder if this story is some kind of hoax about a hoax.

And that 23 at Novosibirsk sounds pretty mild for there, the climate is about the same as in North Dakota.

This is simply the absolute best source for information that absolutely crushes the climate radicals:

https://www.youtube.com/user/TonyHeller1

As well as it’s sister web page: https://realclimatescience.com/

There are many others, but this guy is qualified to talk about it and his videos cover every single argument made by the chicken little globalists. The information is inundating, so he supplies it in the videos in bite sized chunks focusing on a single issue, e.g. why rank and file climate scientists would go along with the nonsense even though they know it’s bullschitt - which is one few will tackle.

Mike and barack's new, multi million dollar, sea side digs, so it appears that they have no fear of rising seas.

Not one climate change prediction made in the last 50 years has come true.

You want the truth? There it is.

Despite all of the fear-mongering rhetoric of the last 3-4 decades about human-caused climate change, doing something about it is even worse. Myself? I'm not buying what they are selling. At all.

Famed Dutch economist and think tank author, Bjorn Lomborg, a climate change believer himself, says the constant push to do something about climate change is never going to solve the problem. Why? Because there are not enough resources in the world to come even close to solving the problem.

He has said in the past that if all of the wealth in the entire world was confiscated to spend just on climate change solutions and nothing else, it would not make a significant difference in climate change. It is a futile effort.

He argues that many of the costly measures and actions adopted by scientists and policy makers to meet the challenges of global warming will ultimately have minimal impact on the world's rising temperature.

He illustrates how futile it is for individuals doing anything will make a difference in climate change. There are hundreds of global problems that should be addressed before climate change because they can actually be solved and make a real difference in peoples' lives around the world. Going all-in on climate change will not make a difference in our lives except to take us back to the Stone Age and even then, we'll still have climate change.

This short piece by Lomborg at the link below explains how climate change efforts are wasted by people who mean well but are not in control of the facts of the results and consequences of their actions.

IOW, for all of the talk of needing to implement the Green New Deal NOW or the world as we know it will cease to exist in 12 years, the climate issues will still exist and not have been significantly altered from what they are today.

“Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us
· Secret report warns of rioting and nuclear war
· Britain will be ‘Siberian’ in less than 20 years
· Threat to the world is greater than terrorism”

Mark Townsend and Paul Harris in New York. Sat 21 Feb 2004.

“Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..

A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020.

‘Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,’ concludes the Pentagon analysis. ‘Once again, warfare would define human life.’

The findings will prove humiliating to the Bush administration, which has repeatedly denied that climate change even exists. Experts said that they will also make unsettling reading for a President who has insisted national defence is a priority.

The report was commissioned by influential Pentagon defence adviser Andrew Marshall, who has held considerable sway on US military thinking over the past three decades. He was the man behind a sweeping recent review aimed at transforming the American military under Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld...”

The media loves to alarm the public. They use every excuse they can find to yell and scream about a "crisis." When an asteroid intercepts the Earth's orbit they cry "we're all gonna die!"
It sells papers, and they never have to retract.
Can you imagine these headlines: "Earth to last 4-5 more billion years." "In-ground petroleum reserves vastly greater than previously thought." or: "Trump economy improves life for Blacks, Hispanics." "Big Bang theory proven inadequate. Scientists turn to God theory."

Even though I was a Mechanical Engineer, my college Masters Thesis was a computer model of the Evolution of the Primordial Atmosphere. Computer modeling of physical systems using iterative time step solutions of differential equations was quite new and since I had be a pre-med student who got sick of the other pre-med students and switched to mechanical engineering I had lots of chemistry and biology on my transcript, I was good fit to do the job (sorry for the run-on sentence).

The model took into account the interactions of bunch of things. Suns’s energy flux, Earth’s air temperature, ocean temperature, ocean chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, earth albedo, bio-mass interactions....... plastic straws..... etc.

The model would be given a set of initial conditions for all the parameters. It would then take a small time step forward using the rates of interaction of all the things above and use the results as the input for the next set of calculations. This cycle was then repeated 1000s of times to create the timeline of what would happen in the future.

As you can imagine, any small error in the model’s calculations would get repeated over and over increasing impact the error. I’m not talking a 1% error inn the model to create a mess, I’m talking 0.00000001% error. So the model has to be perfect. The earth is WAY to complex to create a 100.0000000% perfect model.

I also found that the time step-size that I used in the model had an enormous effect. Just by changing the step-size, I could crash the world into a hard ice age or into a smoking ball of fire. Bottom line: Don’t believe the models.

On an aside, I was sharing the computer with another student who was doing modeling of handicapping of horse races. He was there for about 5 months and dropped out. Never saw him again. But then again, I don’t go to the races. ;o)

Nothing more fun than sitting back in your old age, and watching today’s know-it-all young people fall for new versions of old scams our grandparents saw in their youth, and warned us about when we were young.

Why don’t they all give it up and stop trying to predict the unpredictable?

“A secret report, suppressed by US defense chiefs”

As reported in The Guardian. So we had this insane prediction supposedly backed up with unnamed “US Defense Chiefs” to give it credibility by this far left British rag. Things haven’t changed much that’s for sure.
