Federal judge to block latest North Carolina voter ID mandate

A federal court announced that next week U.S. District Judge Loretta Biggs will formally block a photo ID requirement scheduled to begin in 2020. Unless the upcoming preliminary injunction is successfully appealed, the requirement will be halted until a lawsuit filed by the state NAACP and others is resolved.

Every voting age person in the U.S. has a photo ID, guaranteed! If you don’t drive, and you’re a student, you have a student photo ID. If you’re on welfare, you are required to have a photo ID. If you drive, you have a photo ID. If you don’t drive, you have a non-driver photo ID from your state. Every adult, unless they are a Dale Gribble type, has a photo ID.

I would strongly suggest that the following changes be made to that list of acceptable identifications:

Florida driver’s license
Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
United States passport
Debit or credit card
Military identification
Student identification
Retirement center identification
Neighborhood association identification
Public assistance identification
Veteran health identification card issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs
License to carry a concealed weapon or firearm issued pursuant to s. 790.06
Employee identification card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the Federal Government, the state, a county, or a municipality.
If your photo ID does not include your signature, you will be asked to provide another ID that has your signature.

If you do not bring proper ID, you can not still vote a provisional ballot. As long as you are eligible and voted in the proper precinct, your provisional ballot will count provided the signature on your provisional ballot matches the signature in your registration record.

Anyone who can't get a valid identification card shouldn't be able to vote. Period. I'd also say that any state ID that allows illegals to get one, without it being clearly marked that the holder is a non-citizen also should not be able to be used in federal elections.

I have yet to hear of a valid case where someone who was eligible to vote was denied that right due to voter ID rules - would be nice if they had to produce evidence of “all the harm that could happen”....

Plus your voter registration card, which requires a Florida Drivers License or Florida Identity Card and your Social Security Card. Florida follows the secure ID standard which requires a birth certificate or citizenship proof such as a passport or naturalization certificate to get your DL or ID card.
