It never ceases to amaze me that note taking is always considered to be inviolate. It is accepted that people will lie verbally, but people never, ever, write down something that is a lie. And back dating a current write-up to cast something in a different light — never in world history has it ever happened.

If Glenn Simpson gave the name of source E to an unnamed official then “Who is it?” They either know it or they don’t. An anon source gave the name but no one knows who he/she gave it to! Doesn’t make an iota of sense.
This is just stringing out the game. Nothing will be done. Durham is working on Indictments for late spring or summer. Of what year? The IG is part of the game so all can be cleared. Unless they confess on tape then there is no proof.
As I understand the convoluted article, this was not an anonymous call to the FBI.
Steele had a “Primary Source” telling him dirt on Trump. That “Primary Source” gathered the information from someone whose identity he did not know.
So the FBI spied on the Trump campaign based on what an unidentified person supposedly told another guy, who told Steele. The unidentified person claimed to have heard some of his hearsay from others, who did not claim to be eyewitnesses.
It beggars belief that anyone could pretend this material had any value whatsoever. Yet the FBI used it for their FISA warrant application. But I’d better stop criticizing the FBI; might hurt the rule of law, per former FBI Director William Webster.
