Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York proposed the structure for a “fair and honest’’ trial in a letter to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, an attempt to launch negotiations ahead of House voting this week that is all but certain to result in the president being impeached.

I was not aware the Democrats ran the Senate also

In theory, they don't, but in the past the Republicans have taken every opportunity to cave in.

The trial of William Jefferson Clinton only lasted about a week if I remember right, and he committed real crimes. I expect the Republicans to cave to the point that Trump's trial will last at least a month.

The House basically plays the role of the prosecution in a Senate trial. So yes they can call witnesses to testify. The White House is the defense and can also call witnesses. The Senators are the jury. And the Chief Justice is the Supreme Court is the judge.

Bolton is a Patriot and while he may be a hawk, he's not the only one. And he has the deepest rspect for the Office of the President.

I think Bolton will be an asset to the President in any testimonial. We know he keeps extensive notes on everything.

And, I think letting him go the way it happened was a red herring.

And who was it...Hill...who "knew what he was thinking as he moved in his chair. Gimme a break.

Is John bitter....I'll bet not one bit.

So Schumer doesn’t want to prosecute the articles of impeachment that may be presented to the Senate from the House, he wants to conduct new investigations disguised as a trial?

“abuse of power” can cover anything....

I’m happy to see your prognostication here on this thread ... because for the last three years you’ve been posting all kinds of speculation about President Trump that has turned out to be completely irrational bullsh!t.

There is no Executive Privilege in the Trial Phase.

Propagandists always win with short impactful soundbites. Try to explain “Executive Privilege” versus the Rat talking point of “Obstruction of Justice”. The Rats win with sound bites and their at the ready activists that pose as journalists. There should be a trial with TWO witnesses and only two witnesses. Eric Ciarmella the CIA spy and Adam Schift the liar and deranged congressman. Put the weasel blower on the stand and get him to explain his who what where when and expose everything about his FALSE weasel blower statement. At the same time, assuming he will lie, get him to discuss the weasel blower form being changed just to see him squirm. Adam Schift... just bury him with his “paraphrasing” the President’s phone call. Get him to fully expose that a US Congressman on the dais has IMMUNITY to commit perjury against the President. Keep it short and simple and then vote.

Ok, Kids! Are you seeing it now?

The Dems took over ‘Education’ DECADES ago so the current electorate wouldn’t have a CLUE as to how our Constitution works, let alone how the three separate powers of our Government Branches work! Chuckie Scumbucket doesn’t even know, LOL!

OMFG! We are seeing this in REAL TIME in our LIFETIME! Granted, they didn’t dumb down the populace for President Trump SPECIFICALLY, but it was nice to have in their back pocket, so to speak. *SPIT*

Can’t we just call Democrats, ‘Full Frontal Communists’ and call it a day? Yeesh!

I am not so sure of that.....Don’t the rules have to be created first.....if the majority votes for no witnesses then there will be no witnesses

The Democrats should not be able to present any evidence that was not presented in the House. The Senate trial is about the charges and evidence presented by the House, not its own investigation of new charges.

But that does not give them the right to breach executive privilege. It would have to go through the courts and in a just world that would require direct first hand evidence. But we all know how roberts and the rest will vote. This is effectively the end of executive privilege.

No disrespect intended, but you are just wrong here. bolton has already announced he has evidence and also that he wants revenge on Trump.

Trump needs to go for an instant acquittal. No trial. Stop the circus. Does anyone want to feed the press with more opportunities to continue this charade?

Trump can be as vindictive bringing justice to the bad actors as necessary later on. We should want to see lawsuits like: US vs Comey, etc.

Impeachment is only a charge. The Senate can only try just the Articles presented by the House.

A committee of House Representatives, called “managers,” acts as prosecutors before the Senate.

The Senators consider evidence, hear witnesses, and vote to acquit or convict the impeached official.

In the case of presidential impeachment trials, the chief justice of the United States presides.

It is, however a legislative process not a judicial one. Normal court rules of admissibility and due process do not necessarily apply.
