Virginia National Guard responds after Democratic lawmaker suggests it may be needed to enforce gun control measures

The Virginia National Guard on Friday responded to a Democratic lawmaker after he suggested that it may be needed to enforce new gun legislation.

The remarks from Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) suggesting that Gov. Ralph Northam (D) “may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law” comes as dozens of counties across Virginia have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries” after Democrats took over the state legislature last election.

"We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role,” the Virginia National Guard wrote in a statement posted on Twitter Friday.

“We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard,” it added.

Northam had previously hinted that should the Democratic-controlled state legislature pass stricter gun legislation and law enforcement not follow it, there would be consequences.

"If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be some consequences," Northam said Thursday, according to WSET.

"But I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it," he added.

Unless you are an illegal alien, then you can break our laws with impunity.

I may be wrong here and I’m sure someone has the answers. If Northam calls up the VANG, is he not nationalizing them? If they are called up AND it means they are “nationalized”, then are they not predisposed to support the 2nd Amendment and not some State Legislature-passed law?

Also, I believe the Major General that is the Commander of the VANG is actually a political appointee.

What a weak and worthless statement. That general said essentially nothing. It was the equivalent of “We respect everybody’s point of view. We might do something. We might not.”

General Timothy P. Williams is having some sort of mental problem.

His oath is to support and defend the Constitution.

Not “understand and respect” the feelings Americans have for the Constitution.

maybe my brain is tired or something, but what did the national guard actually declare? ThaT they will not enforce the governor’s unconstitutional demand to arrest people violating unconstitutional gun grabbing laws?

Would be awesome if we got a “Hell NO! We’re not going to violate people’s 2n’d amendment rights by confiscating their guns!” from the NG

“Too bad Virginians,,,,,your getting what you voted for.”

it’s really the DC Swamp that invaded northern VA that did this.

Here is how it goes down:

VA GOV: Turn in your guns!
Citizens: NO!
VA GOV: Police, go get them!
Cops: Hell, NO are you crazy!?
VA GOV: TAG (the adjutant general of VANG), go get those guns! Assemble the troops!
VA TAG: Uh, sir, only 20% of troops showed up at armory.
VA GOV: Go get some guns!
POTUS: This is President Trump, I just federalized all your National Guard/Reserve Troops in your state and ordered them to go home. Nice Try.

If Northam calls up the VANG, is he not nationalizing them?

He would be activating them for state use, not nationalizing them.

Maybe, but this I think, may be a good thing. The National Guard exists at the behest of the governor, but when the members of the Nat’l Guard have vowed not to enforce UNCONSTITUTIONAL laws, then what happens? So, the majority of Virginia’s political divisions have passed resolutions not to enforce a state law. IMO the only ones who will are the Greedy Gestapo aka the Virginia State Police. CW II starts at the Virginia Division of Taxation IMO, or these commie wannabes get run out of town on a rail. Either way, clarity is achieved!

The ultimate irony could be that Virginia will yet again be smacked down by the Federal Government, and it will be over Federal trumping State.

(Insert Civil War joke here)

The stealthy unweaving and reweaving of our Constitution is a work of destruction and recreation of more than sixty years. The idea of ‘sanctuary cities’ or safe havens for illegals—including rapists, murderers, and other criminals—is an example of unweaving and reweaving so as to make Constitutional (sanctuary cities) what is not Constitutional. But so arrogant and defiant are the destroyers—Leftist Democrats—that suddenly the sanctuary city concept is unconstitutional when adopted by legitimate citizens in order to preserve their Constitutional right to bear arms.

Decent, law-abiding Virginians may be on the verge of something very bad. It is devoutly hoped that Gov. Northam and his evil clown posse will back down.
