SF Chronicle Review: ‘Richard Jewell’ is Clint Eastwood’s best movie in years
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Dec 11 2019 | Mick LaSalle

He just seemed the type. He lived with his mother. He had lots of guns in the house. He dreamed of being a police officer. He wanted to be important. He knew everything about bombs. And so, for 88 days Richard Jewell — who was not only an innocent man, but a hero, who’d saved lives — had his own life torn apart, when he became the prime suspect in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. 1996.

“Richard Jewell,” which tells his story, is a suspenseful, beautifully composed film from Clint Eastwood, his finest since “Hereafter” (2010) — and probably the best film ever made by an 89-year-old director. Eastwood has not yet entered the beautiful miniature stage of his career. He is not even Matisse making collages. “Richard Jewell” tells a grand-scale American story of a kind that this filmmaker is known for.

Would pay to see another Eastwood film. Shocked a SF paper would praise this one.

The trailer alone is great. It tugs at the heartstrings.

“So did the FIB ever find who did it?”

Yes. Six years later.

We saw the movie today.

It was difficult to tell the little ones Rudolph did it. Red nosed and leading Santa’s team seemed so far out of the normal and now Rudolph was bombing the Olympics .... ? Oh the horror for the little ones .....

Just posted the following on another thread:

We saw “Richard Jewell” today and were stunned at how the FBI treated that poor man — lying to him, manipulating him, tricking him, trying to keep him from talking to a lawyer etc. Basically it was exactly what they did to Flynn.

Seems Jewell was a decent guy, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so they used that to their advantage to frame him. Even when they knew he was innocent, they continued with the harassment of him and his poor mother. Actually, it was sickening to watch this.

Eff the FBI. I used to have great respect for them. Now, I'd spit in their Stasi faces and tell them to go to hell. I would not talk to them for 10 seconds unless I had lawyers present and video cameras rolling. I trust them not at all. Zero percent.

Even Hannity is coming around. He used to say, "99.99% if the FBI are great patriots!" Now he's down to "97%" with a lot less enthusiasm.

If they were patriots, they would have whistleblown their own corrupt HQ coup team. They didn't.

Paychecks, pensions and "social justice" globalism are their gods.

So Eff the FBI.

Appears the article didn’t give any props to the screenwriter. Although, I might have missed it. Doesn’t matter who the director is if the script is crap.

I haven't seen it yet, but from the previews this looks like a cautionary tale about the deep state and it's power to crush innocent people. The Mueller/Comey/Fitzpatrick, etc. FBI is still doing this to people.

I'm really surprised the San Fran Chronicle didn't catch that, but self-awareness is not a strong suit of the deep state . . .

Don’t forget the Pravda. They never learn their lesson from this to Duke lacrosse to Nice Sandmann with many in between and many more to come.
