Or is this just another vote to vote again?
Johnson's impeachment and conviction was based on his violation of an Act and Clinton's was based on perjury and obstruction. Of course, whether a particular impeachment is in fact based on a crime is to be determined at the subsequent Senate trial.
Until then, impeachment may only be a political device. And that brings us to the view you raise in #107:
Your job is to match whats occurring on the federal level with the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended. Simply its occurring doesnt cut it.
The R-controlled Senate may quickly dispose of the issue with an acquittal vote as a matter of law as McConnell and Graham have seemed to argue. The Dems will then argue "the corrupt R's are simply allowing an evil Trump to avoid justice".
The R's, as one of the two major political parties, have an obligation today to its voters to quickly provide a thorough and complete examination of what could be an on-going coup attempt. That critical showing should occur prior to the next elections whether local or federal - and certainly before any of the expected years-long criminal trials and appeals are concluded.
IMO, what is "occurring" today with the impeachment and expected trial is the opportunity to forfeit a significant political battle.
