CNN Business ^ | 12/11/2019 | Kerry Flynn

Time magazine has chosen Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate crisis activist, as person of the year.

Each year, the magazine features the most influential person, group, movement or idea of the previous 12 months. Last year, it was "The Guardians," a group of journalists who have been targeted or assaulted for their work. In 2017, it was "The Silence Breakers," the group of people who came forward to report sexual misconduct. Past Persons of the Year include Adolf Hitler, Ayatollah Khomeini and Joseph Stalin.

As I’m sure some will say on this thread, the Person of the Year can also be influential for the worse.

Should she not be wearing a life preserver there, after all, rising seas, about to be swept away ...

If I were her parent (shudder) I would send her to her room with no dessert for twelve years, and tell her to come down then and see if she deserved a biscuit.

If I were her social worker I would be drawing up indictments against her parents.

If I were her teacher I would be proud of what a wonderful little communist I had inspired, since of course then I would also be a communist myself.

If I were a weather forecaster, well whaddya know, I am a weather forecaster (this is going to get ugly) ...

She’s some kind of “ologist”, but I can’t say exactly what, or I’d get kicked-off the forum. Heh.

As helpful for the four Horsemen as Time Magazine. Man of the Year 1938.

What bad teeth for a teenager. Not saying there’s a correlation, but I’ve noticed bad teeth on quite a few mentally ill people. (Not suggesting an equivalence; just seems a trend.)

Very true. Hitler was the Man of the Year in 1938, when it was called Man of the Year, because of his affect on world events that year.

Ayatollah Khomeini(sp?) was Man of the Year in 1979, based on his inspiration of the Iran revolution and influence on world events that year, including taking our embassy hostages.

I heard that in 2001, Time was really worried, because people think this Person of the Year is supposed to be an honor. The obvious choice in 2001 based on being the biggest influencer of news events would be Bin Laden. But Time was worried of the reaction if they named Bin Laden as Person of the Year.

So instead, they chose Rudy Giuliani for his leadership in New York in responding to 9/11, rather than naming the leader of Muslim terror who was responsible for 9/11.

Climate Change

Climate Crisis

Just curious, how large of a septic system to sailing yachts have to hold waste from a dozen passengers for two weeks or more? Not to mention garbage container. Or do they recycle their Kleenex?

Guy at newsstand picks up a copy of Time.

Hands the vendor a dollar.

Vendor asks, “You want to buy the magazine or the company?”
