Could the problem be that the city resides below sea level and not global warming? I know that sounds really crazy...

Venice has always flooded.
I went to Venice in 2000 and they told us the individual little islands that make up Venice, are slowly sinking, so of course the annual flooding will continue to get worse.
And it could be that the reason the city now resides below sea level is because it has been slowly sinking due to the constant annual increase of mass loaded on to a less than solid soil base.
As the world is today idiots are the majority in control and though they see the obvious reasons they choose to use ‘everything’ that occurs for political advantage, never for what it actually is.
