The Eiffel Tower shut down, France’s high-speed trains stood still and tens of thousands of people marched through Paris and other cities Thursday in a massive and sometimes chaotic outpouring of anger at the government’s plan to overhaul the retirement system.

Small groups of masked activists smashed store windows, set fires and hurled flares on the sidelines of the otherwise peaceful Paris march, prompting volleys of tear gas from police in body armor.

Unions launched the open-ended, nationwide strikes Thursday over President Emmanuel Macron’s centerpiece reform in the biggest challenge to the centrist leader since the yellow vest movement against economic inequality erupted a year ago.

Well, I wonder what Macron plans to do to their retirement system.

Pretty scary, go your whole life paying into the system and then they change the rules. I cannot blame them for rioting.

Will we?

Is the Macron lad laughing now? Or has mummy made him come indoors so he won’t lose his head?

“Will we?”

They’re expecting it. When the oligarchs have extracted as much wealth as they can they’ll crash the economy and we can start over but this time we have a lot of new citizens whose main job is breeding not working.

I believe the retirement system is rather generous. Me thinks paying for all those immigrants has lead to an inability to keep promises to French citizens. So of course what choice did Macron have? (sarc)

Ah, the "mostly peaceful" riots gambit by the news media. It indicates whose side they're on.

Well, it is a Thursday in France. I think that it is a regularly scheduled event. Drink some wine, eat some cheese, enjoy a meal with creamy sauces, visit the mistress, go on strike, smoke some Gitanes...

The United States economy is so large that individual states have bigger economies then some countries

reference - map comparing states with nations.
https://www.businessinsider.in/californias-economy-is-as-big-as-frances-heres-how-every-state-compares-to-other-countries-in-a-single-map/articleshow/68636751.cms

California and France are about equal with the major difference the fact that California is just one state and is not solely responsible for the total government expense (or military)

Europe is screwed. Their leaders thought bringing in third world migrants would help pay for their social burden, they don’t, in fact they add to the social burden.

I will argue that the revolutionary genes were removed from the gene pool by the wars in the last century. Only wimps remain

The present purely French citizens lack the genetic will of their for-bearers. Until they begin to erect barricades, the unrest is not serious

It’s easy not to care about long-term national programs when you are a largely childless culture. Here and now is the new French way of life for non-Muslims.

I have a very important flight scheduled in May.
I decided to avoid the EU completely and fly west even though it added 4hrs flying time.
These EU ‘Strikes’ tend to multiply and I didn’t want to get it canceled like Air France did 2 years ago.

I will NEVER travel to France ever again!

My debate teacher taught us that in the 7th grade. No one knows (or cares) now.
