Elected officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, which lies just outside of Washington, D.C., voted Tuesday to give students a day off on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
The change will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year, designating May 13 as a teacher professional day so students can celebrate the holiday, the Washington Post reported.
College Board, the organization that facilitates testing for Advanced Placement classes, said tests planned for May 13 will be given a second time for Montgomery County students on May 18.
Muslim parents and students pressed for the day off at a recent school board meeting, the Washington Post reported. Montgomery County makes up Maryland’s largest school system with an enrollment of more than 165,000 students, and it gives students the day off for two Jewish holidays and multiple days around Christmas and Easter.
“This is a big victory for our students,” said Samira Hussein, a longtime advocate for the move told the Washington Post. “They will feel accepted and acknowledged by their teachers, their Board of Education, their superintendent.”

If 25% of students will be out on a given day for religous observance, closing for the day seems like a reasonable idea.
Used to give wednesday afternoons from public school to catholic kids for CCD.
While I believe Moose-linbs should be shipped out of the US, accomdatinh religous observance is a good thing.
But can we get a day for Pastafarians and the Curch of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
If I were a student, I’d want off for the entirety of Ramadan. Isn’t that when muslims go on murdering streaks?
I wonder if they’ll have 9/11 on it as a muzzie holiday or a day of mourning for some people who died in an airplane crash.

But of course! Liberal Montgomery County needs to show how tolerant and welcoming they are to Islam. This is not really surprising.
Obviously, Montgomery County doesn’t give a damn about their rampant crime rates, especially of girls being raped at the hands of Muslims and other illicit aliens.
As a lifelong Marylander, I am appalled that my state is not only giving sanctuary to the multitudes of undesirables, but now is officially recognizing and honoring their perverted “religion!!!”
I was sure, before reading the article, that 9-11 had been designated as a moslem day-of-celebration... It sure is, already, in many foreign countries, like Brooklyn, Dearborn, and Mnpls-St Paul...
