Democratic Lawmaker Breaks With Pelosi on Impeachment: ‘Everything Our Country Doesn’t Stand For’
The Epoch Times ^ | December 2, 2019 | Jack Phillips

Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-N.J.) again broke from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other top House Democrats in a new interview, saying he still doesn’t support his party’s move to impeach President Donald Trump.

Speaking to USA Today in an interview published over the weekend, Van Drew explained that “[his] job isn’t really to like or dislike him.”

“My job is to exact as much goodwill and help for my district and for this nation and for this world that I possibly can while he’s president,” he added.

Van Drew suggested he wasn’t exactly pleased with Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, which are the subject of the impeachment inquiry, but he said he’s seen no impeachable offenses after several months of closed-door and public hearings.

Van Drew and longtime Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), who chairs the House Committee on Agriculture, were the only two Democrats to oppose a procedural House vote—the only one that has been held so far—on moving the impeachment inquiry into the public sphere. No Republicans have supported it, and USA Today noted that on-the-fence members of the GOP like Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) have not backed impeaching Trump.

I got excited at first but this is the SAME DEM I read about OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER on this site.

We don’t need a token bitch to show that we’re right.

Probably in a tight district and want to win again

#### what any of the dems think.

They’d all, each and every one screw us if the timing was right.

When they do the final vote to push the paperwork off to the Senate...I will go and predict that 20 Democrats either abstain or vote against it. It might pass, with just two or three votes to spare.

But every time Drew speaks on the impeachment sham, he utterly flummoxes many so it’s perfectly fine if he appears now and then.

He won’t be the only one to vote “no” if articles are brought up for a vote. But Nancy Pelosi can only spare so many of among the 31 districts leaning toward President Trump.

It’s a real problem. Just keep applauding Drew’s stepping out front. Doesn’t matter if he’s doing it for self-preservation. Soon others will follow suit rather than allow Pelosi to pick and choose.

Enough of them start jumping up and down in private, they won’t even be able to pass anything.

It’s all good.

A lot of Dems will be absent in order to tidy up their sock drawers on the day that vote is taken. Prior commitments don’t you know?

It’s always heartening when one finds integrity, honesty, and decency in congressmen, especially Democrat congressmen.

No, they don’t and they are warned of the consequences should they dare.

That’s how they play the game and Pelosi is rough where she has the leverage over her majority.

The problem is that no one will want to go down with the ship. Give it time to play out and these bobbleheads will start popping up if an actual impeachment vote is coming up in the House.

No one wants to be left standing in this impeachment sham of musical chairs. There will be yelling, screaming and gnashing of teeth if and when it does.

Pelosi can’t give passes to all 31 if there’s a real vote. She can’t allow a vote either where impeachment will fail either.

It’s just a great day for America, FRiend.

He won his House election in 2018 and vacated his previous seat in the New Jersey state Senate. There was a special election last month to fill that seat on a permanent basis, and the Republican candidate won that election to give that seat to the GOP for the first time in almost 20 years.

This guy is a bellwether for other House Democrats in districts that Trump won in 2016.

I still insist the Democrats don't have the votes to impeach the President, despite all their stupid posturing.

Here's the dilemma the Democrats now face:

1. If they vote to impeach the President, there will be a trial in the Senate where radical leftist misfits like Schiff and Nadler will have no control over the narrative.

2. If they DON'T vote to impeach the President, then Trump's entire 2020 campaign will be an endless scene of pummeling the sh!t out of them with all kinds of factual information as well as unsubstantiated allegations and accusations (some of them zany and comical) that will be presented as Trump's "unofficial defense" in a Senate trial that never took place.

This is why Nancy Pelosi flew to Europe for some kind of climate change crap while all this nonsense is going on here.

They’re only three options at this point

one vote to impeach

two table the whole thing

Three censure

Obviously stretch Pelosi will not put the vote up without knowing it will pass

The Democrats have some 230 something members

The big question is will they try to ram it through with only 218 or 219?

I don’t think so

Votes are permanent records for all of history and they’re still pointing out the folly of the attempt to impeach Johnson back in the 1860s

Dick Nixon resigned when the Republicans told him he would be impeached and removed

Bill Clinton was impeached for serious crimes perjury obstruction of justice lying to a grand jury and a number of other things and they could’ve had more

So we shall see but as I’ve stated they only really have three choices at this point

The 66-year-old pointed out that no president in history has been successfully removed by the Senate. To have a “small, elite group” of lawmakers try and remove a president just months before an election is indefensible and un-American, he told the paper.

“To some folks, that’s reminiscent of what was done to kings and queens many years ago,” Van Drew said. “Everything our country doesn’t stand for.”

Van Drew represents New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, which voted in favor of Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“I am a moderate. I am a capitalist,” Van Drew said, adding that he is closer to Pelosi “and Trump than AOC or those folks,” referring to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a freshman lawmaker who has publicly supported socialist policies.

He added that his constituents have supported a number of the president’s policies so far.

Later in the interview, Van Drew suggested that if Trump is acquitted in the Senate, it would raise his chances of reelection in 2020. He said Trump would be able to claim “exoneration” and use it to gain political points.

“I say to folks sometimes: Watch what you wish for,” the congressman said.
