I'm all for the surveillance and the fines........Three years ago one of my best friends was rear ended by a pick up truck while he was slowed down in a construction zone doing maybe 15 MPH. This was on an expressway and the driver of the truck never even slowed down because he was distracted by his cell phone. My buddy's wife was killed instantly.

That same summer my nephew's best friend was seriously injured and had to have his foot amputated above the ankle because of a girl who was in oncoming traffic got distracted by her phone and swerved into Michael's lane, hitting his van head on.

There is the “Big Brother” theme in this law but I agree with the law because driving while texting or talking is dangerous.
Draconian? Maybe but, if the one life it saves happens to be mine, I’m all for it!
I NEVER use my cell phone while driving. If my wife is with me, she handles all of the communications as well as Navigation. If alone, and the phone rings, I let it ring and hope for a message to be left or call them when I have stopped driving.

The red light is not a signal to start texting, either!
