I’m guessing that he knows and schmoozes with a lot of people in TV, is the kind of sidekick that Joe and Mika enjoying taunting, and is a sort of liberal man-in-the-street, assuming the streets in question are those of the tonier parts of Manhattan, and the Hamptons.
