2020 Democrat Debate - SNL
Youtube ^ | 11/24/19 | SNL

An occasionally funny SNL skit on the latest Democrat debate. The good part is there was no Trump bashing, or even conservative bashing for that matter. All the comedy and mockery was directed at the Dem candidates (which shouldn't be hard) even though the ridicule was directed at their personal shortcomings rather than their policy shortcomings.

They don’t even have to make that stuff up. The democrats just hand it to them.

Good point. For example, with Biden, they could never do a better job of making him look foolish than he does himself.

I agree it wasn’t super funny or anything but there were a few chuckles in there. I was more amused by the impersonations which I thought were good for the most part.

So true about one of the comments there:

More people watched this skit than the actual debates.

SNL was funny in the 1970s. Then they took a hard left and started hiring one crop of unremarkable Bozos after another to use the show for left wing grandstanding.

Yayyyy! In before the inevitable dullards who will spot this SNL link, click on it, and then proceed to bore us with “I haven’t watched SNL since the 70’s!!!!”. Yep, FreeRepublic has its own brand of ‘virtue signaling’.

"SNL was funny in the 1970s."

Agreed, but I would opine that the show reached its high point in the late 80s with Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman and John Lovitz.

The thing about SNL is that normal people could write the sketches better than Lorne Michael’s people. That’s always been true. Maybe that’s the reason why it’s still on air today. For example, in this sketch I would have had Andrew Yang offer a thousand dollars to everyone on stage, then they would have all lined up, including Rachel Maddow. It would have been hilarious. They would have ended the sketch with each cast member arguing about who was the first in line, and where the line ends. SNL is a second-rate Canadian comedy (still better than any American comedy). For my money, SCTV rules.

I like it! The writing on SNL varies. These days it’s pretty weak. I think in the early years with the original cast members, 1975-1978ish, they had some clever writers. Two other eras which also had good writers were the year with Christopher Guest, Harry Schearer, Martin Short and Billy Crystal, and those years with Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, et al. I’m a BIG fan of SCTV. The whole cast was great.
