I thought there was no reason for Chinese to vote because the winner is “the Communist”,who defeated “the Other Communist”. What if a non-Communist ran and defeated Xi? How is that prevented? Or is this news merely about voting in Hong Kong only which always results in “do what mainland China tells you, Hong Kong” after the votes are counted?
It would not be allowed. This news about voting in Hong Kong is ONLY about Hong Kong because when the Chi-Coms took it over from the UK it was with stipulations.

I personally heard the tourist stories of three separate local Dems who returned from vacations in China (had to hold myself down from expressing anger at them for it). Third one said “There are a lot of people in China who have strong desires for a lot of things they don’t have. Something is going to have to happen to get them those things or I don’t know what’s going to happen over there.”
Sounded similar to the few stories about Iran we hear. Like the brief Arab Spring stuff, too.
Think of the size of a true mass revolt in China. Not just one guy standing in front of a tank. We never found out how many Chinese “disappeared” after that time.
