Redrawn boundaries determine elections regardless of how strong the incumbent. Dave Brat was a victim in VA. When the Dems are in charge of redistricting, they will benefit.
NY is losing population, but you must combine that with the rapidly changing demographics that favor the Dems. Legal immigration will make the Dems the permanent majority party within a decade.

Dave Brat lost because he did not take his challenger seriously until it was too late. It also helped he was outspent by millions. That is why he lost - complacency and outspent.

So why was he only working four days a week?
I believe the Congress critters spend one day in their ridings doing meetings etc.
They travel 3 days, if and when they do show up.
