Trump encounters GOP resistance to investigating Hunter Biden

A push by President Trump and conservatives to dig into Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine is running into stumbling blocks from an unusual corner: congressional Republicans.

Some Republicans believe Trump’s impeachment trial or a separate Senate committee inquiry could lay the groundwork for investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, who have both emerged as a fixation for Trump and his top allies as they look for a foothold in the impeachment battle.

Trump escalated the effort on Thursday when he tweeted that the Bidens “must testify” — raising the specter that the president’s lawyers or GOP senators could try to drag them into the public impeachment trial.

“What did Hunter Biden do for the money?” @SenJohnKennedy A very good question. He and Sleepy Joe must testify!” Trump tweeted.

But a push to focus on the Bidens as part of an impeachment trial quickly received a cool reception from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

“His lawyers, I presume, can ask for any witnesses they want. But I think we ought to keep focus on the articles of impeachment and not go down any rabbit trails,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told The Hill.

Asked about Trump floating that the Bidens should testify, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he didn’t understand it as a "defense to the president.” “We’ll make that decision, not the president,” Graham added.

Just as the Burl Ives snowman says in Rudolph, the GOP cowards say, “Wake me when it’s over!”

Nobody was stupid enough to think Hunter and Joe kept all that money. The GOP is not only spineless, they can also be bought.

Romney has an advisor on the board of Burisma, too.

NO! But developing an organization to effectively primary those recalcitrant RINOs might be a good idea. The problem with primarying these corrupt people is that we do not have a single opponent taking on the RINO. We need an organization to screen and nominate one Trump person to run against the RINO in the primary. Thus the primary votes are diffused, more people vote against the RINO than for the RINO, but the RINO wins the primary with a plurality. This needs to stop!

said, "run Third Party?"

Trump is outing the Bush's and the Koch Brothers. Why would he undermined his accomplishments?

On the plus side these quislings in the GOP are so busy being embarrassed about Trump that they aren’t yet blowing sunshine up our asses about repealing Obamaharm.

In the Untouchables movie, Cosner (Ness) has a meeting with the judge about changing a fixed jury. When they come out of chambers, the judge tells the bailiff to exchange juries (only in the movies would this happen). The US attorney asked Ness, what did you tell him that convinced him to change his mind about changing juries. Cosner says, I told him his name was in the book listing whom was paid bribes by Capone. The US Attorney said but his name was not in the book.

These guys are taking money et al from so many “contributors and benefactors” that just like that fictional judge, they don't even know whom they could be upended by.

Almost makes one want the Russians to finish invading Ukraine, I’m sure they would find some interesting records and people in Kiev.

I think the GOP will stab the President in the back when he needs them the most. The GOP will claim they try to protect the president then let him be removed from office.

The more I hear about this Ukraine thing the more I suspect that involvement is much more widespread and yes, probably includes some Republicans.

Asked about Trump floating that the Bidens should testify, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he didn’t understand it as a "defense to the president.”

Of course it isn't. How foolish to even think it should be attached to the impeachment issue. This is a crime by the Bidens, no need to tie it to Trump's "defense."

“We’ll make that decision, not the president,” Graham added.

Well then do it. This is corruption and criminal and should be investigated.

Just because Trump brought it to the attention to the world is no reason to involve him.

Gimme a break!
