Trump encounters GOP resistance to investigating Hunter Biden

A push by President Trump and conservatives to dig into Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine is running into stumbling blocks from an unusual corner: congressional Republicans.

Some Republicans believe Trump’s impeachment trial or a separate Senate committee inquiry could lay the groundwork for investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, who have both emerged as a fixation for Trump and his top allies as they look for a foothold in the impeachment battle.

Trump escalated the effort on Thursday when he tweeted that the Bidens “must testify” — raising the specter that the president’s lawyers or GOP senators could try to drag them into the public impeachment trial.

“What did Hunter Biden do for the money?” @SenJohnKennedy A very good question. He and Sleepy Joe must testify!” Trump tweeted.

But a push to focus on the Bidens as part of an impeachment trial quickly received a cool reception from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

“His lawyers, I presume, can ask for any witnesses they want. But I think we ought to keep focus on the articles of impeachment and not go down any rabbit trails,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told The Hill.

Asked about Trump floating that the Bidens should testify, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he didn’t understand it as a "defense to the president.” “We’ll make that decision, not the president,” Graham added.

Grahamnesty was involved with all of McCain’s shady dealing, including arming jihadis.
South Carolina has to do better than that or he will give away the country with amnesty.

No. He would never win without the campaign staff and apparatus of a major political party. He knows this already, which is why he quickly ditched the idea of running as the Reform Party candidate back in 2000.

Of course not! He owns the R party, some haven’t figured it out yet.

No. He would never win without the campaign staff and apparatus of a major political party.

Maybe that’s true as a non-incumbent. But as an incumbent president he has advantages that might more than offset losing the half-hearted support of the GOP party machinery and the tarnished GOP brand.

Ukraine and how many other countries are cookie jars for the political elite of this country. Now wonder it has appeared that the citizens were being sold out it was all true. They just don’t care about the people who elected them. Troubled times are ahead for this country.

He owns the R party”

I wish that were true, but it’s so obviously not. The GOP Senate won’t investigate the Bidens. How does that show that Trump “owns” them or their party? It shows just the opposite.

Should Trump run third party and ditch the tarnished GOP label? He could recruit third party candidates against Lindsey and other swampers while he’s at it?

If Quid Pro Quo is a “Crime” Joe Biden is guilty of one while VP. Watch the video of him bragging about it.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/09/27/flashback_2018_joe_biden_brags_at_cfr_meeting_about_withholding_aid_to_ukraine_to_force_firing_of_prosecutor.html

The President would have a legal obligation to investigate this “crime” So if it is a crime, Trump was doing his duty, it is is NOT a crime what Biden did, neither is Trump guilty of anything.

It is either a crime or it is not. It cannot be a crime for Trump but not for Biden. If it is a crime, Trump is legally obligated to help investigate Bidens actions. .

Either way there is no legal standing to this continuing farce in the US House.

Should Trump switch to Independent and run Third Party? Just a thought experiment.

He'd win 60% of the vote running as an independent, he'd also ensure the Senate would vote to impeach. But then he could refuse to leave and really crack things open (do it Donald!)

He’d be lucky to win a single state in that scenario. You might as well put that silly, delusional idea to rest.

Based on hearsay reported by Fake News outlet with along histroy of lying?

I hate to burst your bubble but the GOP is the ONLY think keeping Trump from being impeached. IF the Democrats controlled Congress, Trump would of been impeached by now.

But your obvious role as a Democrat Fascistic Party propaganda bot around here was exposed long ago. We know this is just more of your pathetic daily attempt to spread Democrat Fascists black propaganda here.
