A push by President Trump and conservatives to dig into Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine is running into stumbling blocks from an unusual corner: congressional Republicans.
Some Republicans believe Trump’s impeachment trial or a separate Senate committee inquiry could lay the groundwork for investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, who have both emerged as a fixation for Trump and his top allies as they look for a foothold in the impeachment battle.
Trump escalated the effort on Thursday when he tweeted that the Bidens “must testify” — raising the specter that the president’s lawyers or GOP senators could try to drag them into the public impeachment trial.
“What did Hunter Biden do for the money?” @SenJohnKennedy A very good question. He and Sleepy Joe must testify!” Trump tweeted.
But a push to focus on the Bidens as part of an impeachment trial quickly received a cool reception from Republicans on Capitol Hill.
“His lawyers, I presume, can ask for any witnesses they want. But I think we ought to keep focus on the articles of impeachment and not go down any rabbit trails,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told The Hill.
Asked about Trump floating that the Bidens should testify, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he didn’t understand it as a "defense to the president.” “We’ll make that decision, not the president,” Graham added.

Trump won’t win as in independent. It’s that simple. No one would win as an independent. All that would happen is Trump would split the vote with the Republican nominee and the Dem would win. See 1992 and 1996 for reference.
Cornfed and ToeTapper can just sit there and spin on their thumbs when Trump’s Senate trial managers call Hunter Biden under subpoena; and there isn’t a goddamn thing anyone can do about it, as the Secret Service guy drives Hunter to the Senate after intercepting him boarding a private jet to a non-extradition country.

The founders did make a mistake with the impeachment process.
They need to put in a step where the supremes get to rule if the investigation is legit. And then to confirm the conviction should stand.

Senator Cornyn is free to say what he wishes, but he BETTER keep in mind that his future is DIRECTLY LINKED to how he treats Trump, as his re-election is next year, and Beto is just dying to see some distance between Trump and his voters.

Each day I am more convinced that linda graham’s bloviating at Judge Kavanaugh’s inquisition was nothing more than kabuki theater. I felt then and I feel even more strongly now that linda’s burst of testosterone at the hearing was done with the acquiescence of difi et.al. I believe the left is very happy to have impotent linda chairing the senate judiciary committee,.
Lispy Graham is not MAGA and I don’t trust him - he is pro Trimp I think because he fears the voters in his state and he thinks his pro Trump posturing will make Trump start a a new nation building war in the Middle East or somewhere.
But Trump, God bless him, knows this because when he pulled back from Syria he said Lispy would want to have US troops in the Middle East for 1,000 years if he could.
I don’t trust the old guard GOP. Even the Republicans I like a lot like Rand Paul ran as a free trade open border politician because Libertarian ideology says free trade is better than protected trade (maybe it is but no one but the USA is practicing true free trade and it seems to hurt us more than hep us).
