Republican Sen. Richard C. Shelby endorsed his former Alabama Senate colleague for an expected 2020 Senate bid. “I believe he will be a formidable candidate,” Shelby said Thursday.
About a year ago, Jeff Sessions was forced out of his role as attorney general by President Donald Trump. Prior to that, Sessions served in the Senate for about two decades. He was first elected in 1996.
Sessions would take on the Democratic incumbent, Doug Jones, who narrowly won a Dec. 2017 special election runoff to fill the remainder of Sessions’ Senate term.
Sen. John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, declined to say whether he would endorse Sessions, and said he did not discuss it with Trump at a rally the two of them attended Wednesday night.

Sessions is a spring chicken by Senate terms. He’s 72. “Former” Democrat and Doug Jones campaign vice chair Shelby is 85!

Yes, I recall Shelby barnstorming the great state of Alabama on election eve to the campaign on behalf of progressive Democrat Doug Jones. With Republicans like Shelby who needs Democrats?

Well, that would certainly explain Shelby’s affinity for a progressive like Doug Jones. Shelby’s quick endorsement of Sessions should be a huge red flag for conservatives.

I just want to see this Senate seat become a Republican seat again.
Nobody has talked much about the 2020 Senate races in other states , but I’ve heard it’s a tough map for the GOP. Getting back this Alabama seat could be key to the GOP retaining control of the Senate.

Well, if I didn’t have a reason to never want to see Sessions in the Senate again, I would have a MAJOR reason now. Sessions is the last person Trump needs in that seat!
Well after the mess of losing the seat to a non establishment candidate, I want this seat. We need to keep the senate!
No friggen way! He became a traitor and now he wants his old job back? Not getting my vote again. Go Tommy Tubberville.
We need that seat. If getting it means Sessions returns, so be it.
I’ll move to Ala just to vote against Sessions.
