Zuckerberg’s power to hurt Trump
Axios ^ | November 2, 2019 | Mike Allen and Sara Fischer

Top Republicans are privately worried about a new threat to President Trump’s campaign: the possibility of Facebook pulling a Twitter and banning political ads.

Why it matters: Facebook says it won't, but future regulatory pressure could change that. If Facebook were to ban — or even limit — ads, it could upend Trump’s fundraising and re-election plan, GOP officials tell Axios.

Trump relies heavily — much more so than Democrats — on targeted Facebook ads to shape views and raise money. Red flag: Kara Swisher, of Recode, the super plugged-in tech writer, predicted on CNBC's "Squawk Box" that Mark Zuckerberg will ultimately buckle on allowing demonstrably false political adds on Facebook: "He's going to change his mind — 100% ... [H]e's done it before."

Twitter this week announced a ban on political and advocacy ads. ("Platforms give pols a free pass to lie," by Scott Rosenberg)

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale ridiculed the decision ("yet another attempt by the left to silence Trump and conservatives"), signaling the wicked backlash that would hit Zuckerberg.

This was part of the reason Clinton was very confident she would win and the left is furious. The collusion/fix was in by “Big Tech”. They will have the attitude to not fail again in 2020.

No Trump supporter is going to be swayed by Democrat ads in the MSM that they don't watch anyway.

Don't forget voters in the middle.

It would be suicide for FB to do that. Trump would pick a new social media platform and 80 million would follow him or MORE.

So let the Zuck do something.

This would be totally illegal. It would be a violation of free speech rights AND election interference.

Sometimes judges are unpredictable.

Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-Haw.) recently sued Google for temporarily suspending her campaign’s Google Ads account after her appearance in last month’s Democratic presidential debate, when she was one of Google’s most-searched candidates....In response, Google spokesperson Riva Sciuto stated that Google “offers” its advertising services to campaigns “without bias toward any party or political ideology.” She said one of Google’s automated systems “triggered a suspension” of Ms. Gabbard’s account but did not provide a specific reason for the suspension or exclude the possibility that human agency was involved.

Private companies can censure and ban all they want to. Free speech per the Constitution involves only government.

Rallies draw in his supporters. Yes, the reporting helps, but there are many folks who don’t watch news at all. Many viewers just tune in to Housewives and America’s Got Talent.
Adds are for the inattentive “independents”.
Advertising works.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers! A vote is a vote no mater where it comes from.

Would all candidates lose their ads?

Would losing ads there hurt Trump, at this point?

Who here is part of active grassroots Trump campaigning?

demonstrably false political adds

And who gets to decide which is true and which is false? They will simply deem anything pro-GOP as false and everything demoncraps squat out adjudged as true.

FB and Google and Twitter and others are utilities and need to be regulated as utilities. Amazon too.

The Trump campaign can send out mass texts. I once read that that is the goal of new technology. Facebook will be obsolete.

Businesses can be sued civilly and (though rarely) prosecuted for criminally violating civil rights.

Corporations Have Paid Out at Least $2.7 Billion in Civil-Rights and Labor Lawsuits Since 2000

Big Tech can be sued for systematically firing those who have religious and conservative political beliefs in their workplace AND systematically oppressing them on the platform.

Facebook has 2 billion members. One study said their throttling of conservative content, censorship of conservative members and injection of liberal political content into the stream swung the election by 1-2 points. That’s often the margin for victory.

They are so BIG that their corporate policies and systemic oppression of specific viewpoints DOES affect outcomes.
