President Trump returning to Louisiana to rally support for Eddie Rispone in governor's race

President Donald Trump is heading to Monroe next week, U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham confirmed Thursday.

The president is making a second trip to Louisiana in two months to stump for Abraham's once-rival Eddie Rispone, who is attempting to stop Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards from getting a second term.

"I appreciate (Trump) making the time to visit Monroe next week," Abraham, R-Alto, tweeted Thursday. "The people of Louisiana's 5th District love their President and support him all the way. His visit to northeast Louisiana will be a historic moment this region will never forget."

The Monroe News-Star first reported that Trump had picked Monroe for his next rally just before Abraham's tweet, citing the city's mayor.

But few details have been disclosed.

Trump's campaign advisers haven't yet responded to this newspaper's requests for more information.

Trump was last in Louisiana earlier this month for a rally in Lake Charles ahead of the primary that had Rispone and Abraham pitted against each other for a spot to challenge Edwards' re-election bid.

Thousands of people turned out for the rally.

Edwards' campaign dismissed the president's impending rally, though.

"It's no surprise that when it's time for politicking, the president is doing what's expected of him and supporting a member of his political party. But when it comes time for governing, Gov. Edwards will continue the good working relationship he and President Trump have had," Edwards campaign spokesman Eric Holl said. "Gov. Edwards has been to the White House nine times to visit with the president on issues important to Louisiana like infrastructure, criminal justice reform, and the opioid epidemic."

LA is a heavily GOP state. Rispone should win.

Trump will easily win the Pelican State next November without breaking a stride.

Probably more along the lines of putting him over the top. Trump rally in the closing days in pervious elections have pushed close races into the win column.

The answer is that Trump wouldn’t be coming here if Rispone didn’t have a better than even chance at winning. It’s all about turnout. If we get our votes out, we win. If the D’s get a big black turnout they win.

Recall that in the primary, Edwards had Obama doing robocalls on his behalf.

He was running against a former GOP Congressman, and made an issue out of his adultery issues 20 years ago.

“...LA is a heavily GOP state. Rispone should win....”
Talked to some family/friends over there earlier. After what took place in DC today, the turnout for this election should be huge, especially with POTUS revisiting again. John Bel Edwards is done....stick a fork in em.

GOP Reaching for Supermajority in Louisiana House Runoffs

By Associated Press, Wire Service Content Oct. 31, 2019, at 12:25 p.m. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The partisan frontline of Louisiana's legislative runoff elections centers on the state House of Representatives, where Republicans are within striking distance of gaining a veto-proof, two-thirds supermajority. The GOP already has reached that benchmark in the Senate for the new term that begins in January, after capturing two Senate seats in the October primary election that had been held by Democrats. With those gains, Republicans are assured 26 of the Senate's 39 seats.
