A mass shooting has left at least two dead and more than a dozen injured at a homecoming party in Greenville, just northeast of Dallas, local officials and witnesses say. Only few details are currently available.
The incident happened just after midnight on Sunday when officers were called for an active shooter at The Party Venue on Highway 380 in Greenville, a city in Hunt County. Details about what happened were not immediately known.
According to initial reports, there are up to 20 gunshot victims, including multiple fatalities and serious injuries. Jason Whitely, a reporter for local ABC affiliate WFAA, said at least two people were killed and more than 12 others were injured.
A large number of emergency services, including air ambulances, were called to the scene of the shooting. There was no immediate comment from local authorities about the number of victims, and the status of the suspect(s) is unknown.
A homecoming party from Texas A&M University Commerce was reportedly taking place at the time of the shooting. WFAA-TV said the shooting involved a .227 caliber rifle. A motive is unknown.
Greenville is about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northeast of Dallas.
They tend to be acts of anger/passion. Not the psycho chickens of school shootings.

Pretty impressive shooting from a 100-year-old lever action rifle.
Shooting 20 people with a rifle that only holds 7 rounds in the magazine.
The only rifle ever chambered in 0.227 I can find is the Savage Hi-Power introduced 1912.
Reporters entirely ignorant in firearms shouldn’t be writing about shootings.

Maybe things will be more clear by Sunday afternoon. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was a dealer in the midst of the ‘party’ who was unhappy with a second dealer there, and he was correcting the competition.
