Climate Science’s Myth-Buster
City Journal ^ | Winter 2019 | Guy Sorman

Posted on 10/25/2019 8:06:09 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Curry is a scholar, not a pundit. Unlike many political and journalistic oracles, she never opines without proof. And she has data at her command. She tells me, for example, that between 1910 and 1940, the planet warmed during a climatic episode that resembles our own, down to the degree. The warming can’t be blamed on industry, she argues, because back then, most of the carbon-dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels were small. In fact, Curry says, “almost half of the warming observed in the twentieth century came about in the first half of the century, before carbon-dioxide emissions became large.”

Natural factors thus had to be the cause. None of the climate models used by scientists now working for the United Nations can explain this older trend. Nor can these models explain why the climate suddenly cooled between 1950 and 1970, giving rise to widespread warnings about the onset of a new ice age. I recall magazine covers of the late 1960s or early 1970s depicting the planet in the grip of an annihilating deep freeze. According to a group of scientists, we faced an apocalyptic environmental scenario—but the opposite of the current one.

This brings us to why Curry left the world of the academy and government-funded research. “Climatology has become a political party with totalitarian tendencies,” she charges. “If you don’t support the UN consensus on human-caused global warming, if you express the slightest skepticism, you are a ‘climate-change denier,’ a stooge of Donald Trump, a quasi-fascist who must be banned from the scientific community.”

From the article..it is worth reading and saving

Scientific research should be based on skepticism, on the constant reconsideration of accepted ideas: at least, this is what I learned from my mentor, the ultimate scientific philosopher of our time, Karl Popper. What could lead climate scientists to betray the very essence of their calling? The answer, Curry contends: “politics, money, and fame.” Scientists are human beings, with human motives; nowadays, public funding, scientific awards, and academic promotions go to the environmentally correct. Among climatologists, Curry explains, “a person must not like capitalism or industrial development too much and should favor world government, rather than nations”; think differently, and you’ll find yourself ostracized. “Climatology is becoming an increasingly dubious science, serving a political project,” she complains. In other words, “the policy cart is leading the scientific horse.”

I salute your Curry. A modern Galileo.

1633
April 12
Galileo is convicted of heresy
On this day in 1633, chief inquisitor Father Vincenzo Maculani da Firenzuola, appointed by Pope Urban VIII, begins the inquisition of physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei. Galileo was ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the Sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church. Standard practice demanded that the accused be imprisoned and secluded during the trial.

I have said over and over again, models that can’t explain the past necessarily can’t predict the future. The IPCC models can’t explain the past.

But the Globull Warming Hoax has nothing to do with science. It has everything to do with climate alarmism being used as a lever to destroy the economies of Western Civilization with the aim of making them so weak they cannot oppose the coming one world governance by the New World Order.

The climate alarmists realize that most nations have enough useful idiots who are easily swayed by pop stars, actors, artists, and the MSM, they know there are not a large number of logically minded people who either know science or are able to execute rational scientific thought over a subject.

They have the dumbed-down masses on their side. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. At some point, as temps and sea levels don’t rise, all people are going to see this as hooey except for the crazies and wackos.

I would rather take my chances with the threat of climate change (which is kind of ironic, because there is no chance of climate change, it is a reality that has been happening for over a billion years), than with the reality of being governed by smug, self-righteous socialist, globalist elites who want to control every aspect of my existence.

And this is all the more true, because their climate theories are, at best, highly questionable.

“At some point, as temps and sea levels don’t rise, all people are going to see this as hooey except for the crazies and wackos.”

It’s already happened once, when they had to stop using the phrase “global warming” because everyone eventually realized it wasn’t getting any warmer.

With “climate change” though, there is always change to point to, but they are still making alarmist predictions like you said, so they should eventually get caught in their own trap again. In 10, 20, 30 years when we still have glaciers and ice caps and the sea level is the same, people are going to notice.

Look there’s only two types of people’s with regard to this climate nonsense

The first are open minded and are willing to study historical records

The second treat the earth as a spiritual rock and will believe anything alarmists tell them and you will not convince them otherwise

When you encounter the second type if you have a mind to try to open their mind just ask him the simple question - what causes ice ages?

You are correct regarding the timeline.

Sadly however, if the current trend of the Green New Dealers is allowed to come to maturation in 10, 20 or 30 years, it won’t make any difference that the seas have not risen or the ice caps melted. Quite the contrary. The Green New Dealers will claim that the absence of adverse weather conditions is a result of THEIR efforts and that we should pay more of our shrinking wealth, surrender more of our freedoms, and embrace more world governance in order to maintain this equilibrium.

We will be long dead when the next Ice Age arrives and the bodies of all the Green New Dealers are encased in the new glaciers in Seattle, Chicago and New York.

“the policy cart is leading the scientific horse.”
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex . . Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

. . . the free university . . . has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity . . . The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money . . . is gravely to be regarded.

Yet . . . we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite. Eisenhower’s Farewell Address

I have been a fan of Dr. Curry for a few years now, when she first started getting stabbed in the back for daring to throw honest questions around. This is a fantastic article that helps people who want to have an honest conversation about supposed climate change. Thanks for posting. I will be passing this around.

As O'Brien said to Winston Smith, the goal is not to get you to say you see 5 fingers when he's holding up only four. It's to get you to actually see 5 fingers.

Today's leftists have much of the country at that point now.

I can remember when the threat was "the coming Ice Ages." Humanity survived the last nIce Age. We'll survive the next. We'll survive global warming, too.

Excellent quote from the article. Science, in this case climatology, has been corrupted by the Left. Just as how Leftism has corrupted education, the arts, government bureaucracy and everything else that it touches. Leftists believe that their ends (desires) justify any means, and so they don’t place a high value on truth. It is their unlimited ego and resultant thirst for power, status, money and sex that corrupts everything. They think that they are above the law. The law applies only to the “little people.”
