If Trump’s mouth were as effective as his policies, he’d be be way ahead in the polls. Trump’s policies are actually bolder than Ronald Reagan’s, especially on social issues, but Regan was the better communicator.
Reagan was a fantastic communicator, including a genuinely kindly and happy demeanor. As far as “policies”, don’t forget Reagan fought all-Dem Congress entrenched since the ‘50s (except for 2 years in the Senate).
Reagan’s approach was completely disarming. Lots hated on him, but they would be insane to claim he was unlikeable. You couldn’t fault the guy. He’d land zingers on commies with a good joke and thus, no backlash.
