Trump campaign expects impeachment fight to boost turnout in Michigan battlegrounds

President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign believes the ongoing fight over impeachment will rally the party’s base and make the difference in key races next year.

Members of the Trump campaign’s communications team told MLive that House Democrats only flipped Republican seats in 2018 because 8.8 million people who voted for Trump in 2016 stayed home during the midterm elections. Tim Murtaugh, communications director for Trump’s 2020 campaign, said House Democrats’ ongoing impeachment inquiry will bolster Trump’s prospects of reelection and GOP candidates’ chances of victory down the ballot.

In 2018, GOP candidates lost races for all statewide offices, control of the 8th and 11th House districts and 10 seats in the Michigan Legislature. U.S. Reps. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, and Haley Stevens, D-Rochester Hills, flipped House districts that Trump and Republicans won by comfortable margins in 2016.

Slotkin and Stevens came out in support of the impeachment inquiry last month and have been heavily targeted by Republicans who say they abandoned their status as moderates. The Republican National Committee organized impeachment protests in Slotkin’s and Stevens’ districts and purchased ads against them, along with other House Democrats in districts Trump won.

Rick Gorka, director of communications for Trump Victory, said Democrats are acknowledging the impeachment inquiry is unpopular by not holding a formal vote. Republicans are demanding the House hold a vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry, though the Constitution does not require it.

Gorka said Democrats are shielding vulnerable members from taking an official position on impeachment.

Though Slotkin and Stevens support the inquiry, they haven’t committed to impeaching the president. Stevens asked constituents to tell her whether they support the inquiry in a Wednesday email.

They tackled the wrong person. They always figured that any republican faced with a solid wall of hostility and hatred, would cave into their demands and resign. Trump is a fighter and will never surrender. He’ll keep up the fight, and his army of supporters will be there to support him.

I’m predicting PDJT will win Wisconsin again, but by a bigger margin this time around.

Wisconsinites are not happy AT ALL with our dip-shiite Governor, ‘One And Done’ Tony Evers.

Go, Michigan! On, Wisconsin! :)

Heck, let’s drag Minnesota over the Finish Line with us too, as long as we’re making predictions, LOL!

in 2018, GOP candidates lost races for all statewide offices, control of the 8th and 11th House districts and 10 seats in the Michigan Legislature.

The reason Republicans got their butts kicked in 2018 is because the CommiecRATs managed to get Dope on the ballot.

Dopers turned out in mass to get is legalized. While they were there they voted for the pro dope Commie's.

Rats are creating a voter tsunami for Trump, the likes of which have never been seen before.

They’re fighting against s Trump tsunami now, but that only makes the tsunami in Nov 2020 much bigger.

2018 was a doper year vote. The marijuana question on the ballot brought out the potheads, libertarians, etc. out of the woodwork. There are some who have pointed out voting irregularities in some of Michigan's less populous districts.

Slutkin and Haley are going to have a tough re-election battle. Their two districts areas are fairly conservative, but we'll see how much vote fraud is manufactured by our Soros-backed Secretary of State.

so how many dems didnt vote, would be good to know the comparison of who did and didnt vote and where, I’m sure the campaign knows, because its pretty normal for midterm turnout to be far lower than presidential elections

I still think that Trump understood that losing the House was necessary for his re-election...

Trump’s campaign was very wise when they focused on the Senate races in 2018 and pretty much let the house slide. Rd

“Trump’s campaign was very wise when they focused on the Senate races in 2018 and pretty much let the house slide.”

Agree...and it was the right thing to do. The House was totally POWERLESS without Republicans having 60 Senate votes, and they weren’t close to that.

But the Senate was and is the place JUDGES get placed on our courts - these days, that is the most critical factor, for having conservatives on the courts is the ONLY THING to stop a second Civil War (or worse) here, should Democrats again get Congress and the White House.

“Trump’s campaign was very wise when they focused on the Senate races in 2018 . . .

I agree and cannot wait until PDJT campaigns in Michigan with John James, who hopefully will succeed in unseating Gary Peters after having given Stabenow all she could handle last year.
