Climate activists protest at Vermont Statehouse (low turnout because of cold & rain)

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) Climate activists spent the night on the Statehouse lawn in Montpelier, demanding Vermont lawmakers take action on climate change.

Numerous tents were set up for the "Extinction Rebellion" climate encampment.

This all follows the climate week of action, where we saw protesters take to the streets in Vermont and across the globe.

About 30 protesters urged lawmakers to reduce carbon emissions to net-zero by 2025 and demanded state and local governments across the country work to inform people about climate change.

"We really need to pay attention to our humanity, moving forward, I think there's a real lack of that in the government, and there's a big focus on money and material and all of this building stuff," said Lila Markow, a member of the Youth Action Alliance.

Statehouse staffers told us the protesters aren't allowed to sleep overnight on the Statehouse lawn.

The protesters said their numbers were down because of the cold and rain, but they remained optimistic about the protest.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Extinction Rebellion is the very latest thing, dontcha know. Heavily funded by the usual suspects, great professional PR department, lots of optics and posturing, not much in the way of content. Objective: astroturfed celebrity. Sort of reminds me of the Coffee Party of not so very long ago.

It doesn’t matter. The diesel dyke legislature will go right along with them. They’re building “solar farms” all over the place. Last January through February we had 7 days of sun.

Put plastic bags over the protesters heads and we can reduce their production of carbon emissions to net-zero today. Why wait?

When I first read it I thought it said "Vermont Steakhouse."

Good grief, they're camping out to protest steak?

Enviro-freaks hate electricity, oil heat, gas heat of all kinds, and wood stoves.

Their plan is very simple—have every citizen in Vermont freeze to death in the winter.

Why don’t they go protest in the countries that are REALLY contributing to *climate change*.

One of the best things about winter in Vermont - all the nut cases stay inside for the next six months.

Just WHAT is this “Extinction Rebellion” group all about? I have read two or three news stories about protests they took part in, but they say nothing describing the group, as if the reporters assume we have all known them for a long time. Whose extinction are they promoting? Are they for it or against it?

30 PROTESTERS? I think there would more at a Vermont Trump Rally 48 hours before the rally. 30 protesters on a rainy night? Fall in New England, it does get cool/cold there. Why not do it in July, morons?

Whacko idiots. The twits want everyone to retun to the fays of horse and buggy, and at the same time slaughter all of our farting cows?

These idiots need an application of tar with a dusting of feathers, the old Vermont Ethan Allen remedy.
