The state's top prosecutor believes that the go-to social media site for accused Tree of Life shooter Robert Bowers is on its last legs financially, according to a statement issued early Thursday further explaining that office's decision to close a civil probe that followed the synagogue massacre.
The statement from the office of Attorney General Josh Shapiro indicates that the decision to close the probe followed indications that Pennsylvania-based Gab.com "had exhausted its already-raised money, and was no longer going to be serviced by the payment processors, cutting off all public funding to support the business."
Spokeswoman Jacklin Rhoads went on to write that Gab's site "was barely operational for new users because of increased malware and the app bans by major tech companies."
Gab's legal team did not respond to emailed questions about the site's finances.
Anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant posts on Gab attributed to Mr. Bowers, including veiled warnings of the impending attack posted on the Oct. 27 morning it occurred, led to scrutiny of the site. Major vendors abandoned Gab. The attorney general's office subpoenaed Epik.com, which had become the social media site's domain registration provider and web host.
On Wednesday, Mr. Shapiro's office confirmed the closure of the civil probe, suggesting erroneously that the site went “under.” Gab.com still functions, though it is balky, and Seattle-based Epik this week reaffirmed that it provides services that allow the site to operate.

Tried Gab long ago, and left due to the rampant racism and anti-Semitic posts.
Too bad because Twitter needs competition. There was (imho) a deliberate effort to flood Gab with repulsive porn and anti-semitic posts, in order to turn off regular people and thus defeat it as an alternate to Twitter.
I agree and as we can see; a lot of people fell for the scam.
I won’t even make a twitter account but Gab has been pretty good. Granted, I don’t spend much time there, but anything to beat back the anti-free speech techs is a good thing.
Even with the bad racist and anti-Semitic comments. Just put those bozo’s on ignore as they pop up.
Deliberate attempt? People on FR defended it for those posts. No surprise they are failing.
I signed up for Gab but found it utterly useless. It’s not a conservative replacement for Twitter, it’s just a piece of shit.
I have an account on Gab Social. I don’t spend much time on the site but when I do check in there I see lots of interesting content, much of which I’m unlikely to see elsewhere. I also see some content that I think is garbage but I don’t worry about that. I’m grateful Gab exists as a site where people won’t be deplatformed for having non-leftist opinions.
I don't think it took 15 minutes for me to determine that and delete my account there. The rampant racist and anti-Semitic comments there were just too much. Didn't want to be associated with a site like that.
I tried it simply for trying it. I don't have a Twitter account and frankly, don't feel the need to tell the entire world my every thought there. (I can do that here, of course - for better or worse.)

You guys must be going to the wrong places because I just took a little visit to Gab and didn’t see anything like what you describe.

They obviously need to do a deeper investigation.
Did Bowers use an iPad to post, or maybe an Android? We’ll have to shut down Apple and Google!

The way I see it, just avoid the topic “Israel” for starters; that seems to be where most of the anti-Semites hang out.
I’m guessing that they do that by selling personal info revealed in the user profiles and tweets, similar to FB.

Any site which is not controlled will be flooded with every manner of horrors to drive people away. You can see it in 4Chan before it was taken over by the FBI (literally non-stop videos of cartel killings, tranny porn, antisemitism, racist, etc etc.) and 4Chan now which still has it, but it is in vastly reduced form, likely just posted by trolls who were attracted to the site by what the spooks were posting before it got comped.
And if that fails, they flood it with traffic to drive up bandwidth, and drive it out of business by draining funds, ala 8Chan. With 8Chan it was flooded with anime tranny porn and pictures of real pre-op trans porn right before the Texas Walmart shooter. When that failed, they posted a manifesto from that shooter, to get it deplatformed. That last shooter never posted his manifesto to 8Chan, he posted it to Instagram, and somebody else reposted it to 8Chan. And that was enough to get 8Chan deplatformed as services it needed to host and protect from DDOS attacks refused to serve it anymore.
There is an amazingly organized program out there.

I was there shortly after they started up .... if it’s changed, it’s changed. By the sounds of the article, doesn’t sound like many are left there and they’re probably not going to be around much longer.
