Boil water advisory issued for nearly 900 households after Mount Washington water main break

A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for nearly 900 households in parts of Pittsburgh’s West End neighborhoods after a water main broke on Mount Washington Saturday afternoon.

The boil water and flush advisory applies to portions of Ridgemont, Westwood and Elliott, according to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.

Many residents in the area had no water service or experienced low water pressure due to the break, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. along a 16-inch water main on Virginia Avenue at Kearsarge Street, the PWSA said.

PWSA officials said the break was isolated and normal water service was restored around 8 p.m.

The agency said contaminants can enter the drinking water when there’s pressure loss, prompting it to issue the advisory for 870 homes.

Good thing my son just moved from Mt Washington to Shaler Township. He lived very close to the area where the break occurred. Although boil water alerts seem to be a common occurrence in the Pittsburgh area. Must be ancient water systems constantly breaking down.

Ditto. It would be nice if a state and location were given on articles.

Had a 24” Main break a few days ago, 12 Million Gallons flooded the street shutting down everything in the area. I’m sure glad We live way North of the mess in another County.

I live in Mt. Washington, on the other side from the break.

Indeed. Our Congress vermin is Mike Doyle, a useless Democrap who inherited the job just because he’s a Democrat, and “Democrats is fer da workin’ man...”

“Democrats is fer da workin’ man...”

Of course, now that President Trump is working to bring manufacturing back, they've done a 180 and are now free traitors.

I’ve seen the aftermath from a 54” that blew apart at a Fitting after a crew dug the Blocking (after they were warned to be careful to not move or remove it) that was a concrete block as big as a midsize car from behind that Fitting. Filled a hole 40’ deep and about 150’ x 200’ before We could get the Pumps turned Off that were about 2 miles down the road.

Which in NH is a few miles north of Mount Washington.

If they have a water company, who knows what they might name it?

Some are. There’s a Raw Pump for Dallas in Lake Texoma that pumps like 60 MGD (Million Gallons Daily) and that’s just one of 6 or 8 RWP’s and one location. They also use Ground Water (Wells) and Blend it in. Water is Gold in the Mid/Central US.
