Exclusive: Military leader of Syrian Kurds tells US 'you are leaving us to be slaughtered'

The commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces told a senior US diplomat, "You are leaving us to be slaughtered," demanding to know whether the US is going to do anything to protect Syrian Kurds as Turkey continues its military operation targeting America's Kurdish allies in Syria.

"You have given up on us. You are leaving us to be slaughtered," Gen. Mazloum Kobani Abdi told the Deputy Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, William Roebuck, in a meeting Thursday, according to an internal US government readout that has been obtained exclusively by CNN.

"You are not willing to protect the people, but you do not want another force to come and protect us. You have sold us. This is immoral," Mazloum added.

He insisted the US either help stop the Turkish attack or allow the Syrian Democratic Forces to strike a deal with the Assad regime in Damascus and their Russian backers, allowing Russian warplanes to enforce a no-fly zone over northeast Syria, thereby denying Turkey the ability to carry out airstrikes. The US does not want the Kurds turning to the Russians, administration officials say.

"I need to know if you are capable of protecting my people, of stopping these bombs falling on us or not. I need to know, because if you're not, I need to make a deal with Russia and the regime now and invite their planes to protect this region," Mazloum said.

Turkey launched its long-threatened incursion into Syria after President Donald Trump ordered a small contingent of about 50 US troops to be pulled back from the border area amid a belief that a Turkish incursion was imminent. Before that, as a confidence building measure with Turkey, the US convinced Kurds to dismantle their defensive fortifications along the border

With associated air support, they could probably destroy the entire Turkish force tasked with invading Syria. As in kill every last man.

Do you have the slightest clue that the Syrian Kurds have suffered much from ISIS, then the shed much blood on the ground to defeat USIS and all during this time have done NOTHING to harm the Erdogan Turks. Nothing that is other than defeat ISIS with which Erdogan had profitable business arrangements.

Is this real, or is this another manufactured story spun up to make Trump’s foreign policy look bad like the Turkish military shelling US special forces?

I am sure the communist and PKK terrorist Kurds appreciate your defense, along with all the Muslim sect Kurds.

From Wikipedia:

“A majority of Kurds belong to the Shafi‘i school of Sunni Islam, but significant numbers practise Shia Islam and Alevism, while some are adherents of Yarsanism, Yazidism, Zoroastrianism and Christianity.”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurds

It’s really noble you want them to rely on the US and our soldiers’ lives for these non-US citizens who insisted on enlarging their territory while not negotiating for a future.

How would an independent Kurdish state be run? As a democracy? Freedom of religion? Women’s rights? Free enterprise?

I’m just wondering, since we’re apparently supposed to spend fight and die to create such a state (all without Congressional declaration of war, but of course that part of the Constitution doesn’t have to respected, kind or like the Second Amendment)

OK here is what is happening in Syria. We have 50 troops there plus some weapons makers who are testing weapons in limited live combat conditions. We are keeping this little war going, not to protect the Kurds, but to test military AI. We are literally running product tests for American AI weapons that are being tested on the Turks and Syrians.

This is not a real war. Its a limited battle that we keep going. It’s whole purpose is a test lab. Its like a war game. But in this case its live, so there are real casualties.

I guess you didn’t notice that I was referencing the SYRIAN Kurds. And my post was responding to YOUR IGNORANT POST saying “Bomb them, Turkey”. The Erdogan Turks are certainly not the “good guys” in this invasion.

And I was certainly not calling for American military defense of the Kurds. So, I’ll simply leave you to your true ignorance in this area.

The Syrian Kurds are effectively the same:

From Wikipedia (“Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria“):

“Some of the criticism against the region has included opposition to conscription, and claims of authoritarianism, Kurdification, ban on critical journalists, the promotion of an anti-capitalist ideology, and influence from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (commonly known as PKK).”

“Most ethnic Kurdish and Arab people in Northern Syria adhere to Sunni Islam...”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rojava

House, it seems you have no standing. The Syrian Kurds effectively mirror all Kurds.

My comments stand.
