My late father, at the age of 12, was lent out to other farmers as a hired man so that he could send money back to his family.

My dad was a hired man from about 12 years old until he joined the service and fought in Korea. He had a room in the farmers barn and all the $s went to my grandparents. A lot of it went to him and his brothers clothing.

My son is leaving his job. Says he doesn’t want to work somewhere where he “dreads Mondays”.
They just don’t get it.

Wrong. I did. Management changed from Australian management to greedy Indian management. Employer put a 6-month notice in place so it nearly impossible to really look for other employment.
This was Dubai/ UAE where it’s illegal and they will imprison you for absconding from a job. Thousands languish in its prisons for just that. The Dubai police are still threatening me as my former employer lodged a case against me. I better stay out of the GCC.
Quit, took the next flight out. It was rough for 6 months, but now making 4x the pay and I’m out of the backwards guilded cage that is Dubai. No more Ramadan bullshit to deal with.
