California Gov. Gavin Newsom ‘outraged’ by PG&E blackouts, but says they’re needed

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday he’s “outraged” over Pacific Gas and Electric Co shut-offs, blaming decades of mismanagement at the utility.

He made the comments Wednesday morning, several hours after millions of Californians woke up without power amid massive blackouts that have stranded huge swaths of the state without electricity.

Given the potential danger posed by the utility’s power lines, Newsom said the blackouts are needed to keep

“I’m outraged because it didn’t have to happen,” Newsom told reporters at a news conference in San Diego. “They’re in bankruptcy due to their terrible management going back decades. They’ve created these conditions, it was unnecessary.”

Most of the outages are in the hills ringing the Sacramento Valley and the state’s wine country where Newsom, who made his fortune in the wine business, noted that his wineries are in the midst of grape crushing season and desperate for power.

“I’d rather criticize Donald Trump than act like him, talking about my businesses in Northern California, but we’re in the middle of wine crush and folks are running around trying to get generators right now,” he said. “It’s very consequential.”

No mention of the CPUC culpability.

They set the rates, force PG&E to buy all "clean" power produced at far above market rates (this include excess solar from millions of homes), and approved every single budget for the past 40 years.

In order to keep rates "low" to the consumer, CPUC scrimped on the maintenance budget...75% of a massive utility's costs. Or more.

When combined with a second offensive by the CalEPA to restrict clearing on their rights of way, they killed the largest public utility in America.

PG&E is facing at least $30bil in fire judgements and $100bil in maintenance backlog. Officers of the company have been threatened with criminal liability.

They ABSOLUTELY made the right decision to hit the off switch.

Gavin Loathsome and the currently Loathsome State of California endorses the banning of plastic straws in both public and privately owned establishments yet has zero issues with disposing of unborn children by way of inviting women from around the world to have free abortions in our ‘sanctuary’ state.

Is Newsom outraged at the excrement on the streets? the contaminated needles in the parks? the rats? the pollution of the Sacramento River? the lice in the public schools?

Seems to me that power outrages are not the worst of California's problems...

Shut up Newsom. You are a patent, pandering phony. And probably corrupt, too.

Then he's not outraged. He's just sorry Lefties might get the blame for this taking place.

It seems to me that asking a utility to provide more and more at less and less while mandating that they use the beating of fairy wings to turn wind turbines has its limits.

The laws of the State of California cannot trump the laws of physics no matter how hard you stomp your feet.

My leftist brother lives in Silicon Valley and I wonder if he’s sitting in the dark. I have told him over and over what a disaster California is concerning his energy and he keeps talking about power generation from unicorn farts and moon beams.

The dumb shit says that the United States is going balls-out on fracking because we are trying to use up all the fossil fuel before the hidden technology of inexpensive renewables can be rolled out.

I feel schadenfreude at nearly the same level that I did on election night in 2016.

I feel so badly for my Conservative friends who are stuck in California. There are at least a million who would gladly leave that mess of a state if they could find a new job and sell their house. I voted repeatedly for Republicans/Conservatives for two decades, to no avail. We left 10 years ago. Love visiting, glad I no longer live there.

And P,G and E are turning off the juice because it’s windy and a wildfire MIGHT occur?? SMH

California will once again be the poster child against deregulation of public utilities.

It would be funny if the power was yanked out at Gavin’s house.

Watch Newsom. He will push to “nationalize” PG&E. Power and control is all the Sacramento Marxists care about. California and its REAL citizens are lower than secondary...

“It would be funny if the power was yanked out at Gavin’s house.”

It’s already been yanked from his vineyard and cellars.

Can’t complete the grape crush and maintain temps of the juice.

Too funny. Priceless even.

He’s got some nerve as executive of California to criticize anyone else’s finances.
