Newt Gingrich: Trump needs to tame anger at Democrats over impeachment
The Washington Times ^ | October 6, 2019 | Dave Boyer

NAGOYA, Japan — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who led the last impeachment of a president, said President Trump can help himself by taming his frustration over the Democrats’ partisan inquiry and staying focused on highlighting his economic achievements for middle-class voters.

Mr. Gingrich points to the example of former President Bill Clinton, the man he helped impeach in 1998, as someone who successfully navigated that difficult path.

“Go back and look at Clinton — he compartmentalized,” Mr. Gingrich said in an exclusive interview. “Clinton was very disciplined about saying, ‘I’m working on the American people’s problems, and I’m not going to talk about that [impeachment].’”

Mr. Gingrich, who has offered advice to Mr. Trump since House Democrats announced the formal impeachment inquiry, said the president “just needs to realize he doesn’t necessarily help his case when he stays on this topic.”

“My advice would be to relax — understand, you’re going to lose [in the House],” Mr. Gingrich said. “I don’t worry at all about Trump getting convicted [in the Republican-majority Senate].”

Mr. Trump spent much of the weekend tweeting his criticism of what he calls the latest Democratic “witch hunt” — the impeachment inquiry focusing on his efforts to persuade Ukraine’s president to investigate Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden. He also engaged in a feud with Sen. Mitt Romney, Utah Republican, who has criticized the president’s actions.

“Not only are the Do Nothing Democrats interfering in the 2020 Election, but they are continuing to interfere in the 2016 Election. They must be stopped!” the president tweeted.

The former speaker sat down with The Washington Times to discuss impeachment during a leadership summit in Japan sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation, at which he delivered a keynote address. Mr. Gingrich said the president is understandably resentful...

President Trump should not listen to Newt, and both men know that truth.

I’d like to see him go to full ridicule mode instead. Maybe he could appoint Gregg Gutfeld or Mark Steyn to fill in as a temp press secretary for a few weeks.

Newt, you’re missing one tiny detail. Clinton was guilty, President Trump is innocent.

Newt doesn’t understand that we are at a convergence point of some very powerful forces. Marxists have been undermining the government and the country for so long that they have accumulated enough power to destroy the power and freedoms of all Americans.

I think more and more Americans are waking up to this and know their country is in trouble. This monster must be faced now.

I don’t think Trump is so much angry as he is energized.
In any case Gingrich ought to learn how to get angry when anger is appropriate.

Terrible advice from Newt.

The only reason Trump is now facing impeachment is because his defense against Mueller and the Russia Hoax was so pitiful.

The Democrats and the MSM slapped Trump around for two years, and he did absolutely nothing of consequence to stop them.

The Political Left does not fear him in any way.

In spite of dozens of FOIA lawsuits that would have aided Trump's defense, Trump still sends his DOJ lawyers into court every week to stop the release of documents!

Trump's Inspector General at the Department of Justice (and FBI), Trump's IG at the State Department, Trump's IG at CIA, and Trump's IG for the Director of National Intelligence, were all appointed by, or previously worked for, Obama!

The only sound bites or Tweets that Trump puts out in his own defense are copied from Hannity, Tucker, Rush, Mark Levin, John Solomon, and Judicial Watch.

The Democrats perceive Trump as incompetent and weak - and they will never stop attacking him until he does something to change their opinion.

It’s a wonder our magnificent POTUS has been as restrained as he has to this point, having been under relentless siege for his entire term.

Newt actually ought to be raising holy hell with Nancy, who is attempting an unmitigated coup based on nothing more than utter vitriol against a duly-elected president.

Newt should understand and recognize how all of this undermines PDJT’s ability to govern and eclipses all of the brilliant work he has already done for our nation.

Don’t worry.

If you’re as smart as the average Trump supporter, you’re more than smart enough to know that Trump should simply keep doing what he’s been doing all along.
