Police have confirmed a violent event at Kuopio Savo vocational school in Herman shopping centre. One person died in the incident in the eastern Finnish city of Kuopio on Tuesday, police said. They said nine others, including the attacker, had been hurt.

Cops have the guy.
What local press says...the guy came into the classroom (was a student) and pulled the sword out of a bag he was carrying....attacking the instructor. Panic started up in the class, and students started throwing chairs at the guy...to disrupt the attack (apparently they didn’t back down). Of the nine injured, the suspect is one of them. The dead guy hasn’t been identified but some suggest it was the instructor (first to be attacked).
Trigger for this? Unknown. Cops aren’t saying much. Nationality of the guy hasn’t been spoken. This was a vocational ‘college’.
Town is about 200 miles north of Helsinki. Best to describe this as being a moderate town...100,000 residents...in the midst of woods.
We need common sense regulation of swords.
Cops are using the term ‘long blade’. He had to carry it into the room inside of some shoulder-bag. The attack centers chiefly on the instructor. Rest of students started tossing chairs to help stop the attack. I think that just flipped the guy into attacking them.

Finnish police are saying that the perp is a native born Finn. And that’s about it so far.
We have “native born Americans” who are named Muhammed... Not assuming anything though. Could be an ethnic Finn.
Time to ban assault swords...

I’d give it another 24 hours. People who knew this guy will chat via social media, and I expect more to come out by tomorrow morning. It’ll be via them....not the police or authorities to suggest the nationality, or his mental issue.
This was a vocational school which was next door to a mall. There’s a fair amount of drug introduction into the nordic countries. It’s possible he’s just a plain Finn hyped-up on PCP or meth.
From my trip to Helsinki two years ago, you kinda notice that there aren’t that many foreigners there (at least compared to the Netherlands or Germany). Part of this might be the miserable winters and extended sunlight or lack of sunlight.
